Tata Tiago JTP, Tigor JTP to get more features

In October last year, Tata Motors launched the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP – the first products from its partnership with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives. And now, within just nine months of their debut, the performance twins are being readied for a minor feature update and Tata has started teasing the updated models on social media. Our sources have confirmed that the refreshed JTP models will be introduced in the market around mid-August 2019.

To start off, the hotted-up Tiago and Tigor will get a larger 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This should be a step up from the currently available 5.0-inch unit that gives the connectivity features a miss. Additionally, the electrically adjustable wing mirrors on both models will gain a power folding function. Automatic climate control, which is already a standard fitment on the Tigor JTP, will now be on offer on its hatchback sibling too. In terms of equipment levels then, the JTP duo will soon become equivalent to the top-spec versions of the standard Tiago and Tigor.

Except for these modifications, the sporty hatchback and sedan will continue unaltered. Projector headlamps, side skirts, a roof-mounted spoiler, diamond-cut alloy wheels, contrast paint shade and custom seat upholstery will remain part of the standard kit. Safety will be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high-speed alert system and seatbelt reminder for the driver and front passenger.

There will be no changes under the hood either. The souped-up versions of the regular Tiago and Tigor will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, capable of churning out 114hp and 150Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are currently priced at Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively, and the upcoming update should see a slight bump in these figures. In related news, a JTP version of the Tata Nexon compact SUV is also reported to be in the pipeline.
