Tata Motors has commenced pan-India deliveries of the Tiago EV hatchback, with 2,000 units delivered in the first batch across 133 cities. The company claims that it has received over 20,000 bookings for the Tiago EV so far – the first 10,000 having come in just the first day.

At launch, Tata had said the introductory prices would only be applicable on the first 10,000 bookings of the Tiago EV. However, overwhelmed by the response, Tata extended the introductory prices for another 10,000 customers. Prices for the Tiago EV currently range between Rs 8.49 lakh-11.79 lakh (ex-showroom, India), but is soon set to go up as more and more bookings rack up.

    1. Four month waiting period for higher variants
    2. Tiago EV has a range of up to 315km
    3. Tiago EV Blitz coming in FY2024

The Tiago EV comes with two battery pack options – 19.2kWh and 24kWh. The brand is prioritising deliveries of the latter first, with deliveries of the smaller battery variants commencing towards the end of February.

Tata Tiago EV: current waiting periods

According to dealer sources, the current waiting period for the Tiago EV long range is four months, while it is 5-6 months for the medium range. Dealer sources tell us that ‘Tropical Mist’ and ‘Teal Blue’ are the paint shades that have the most demand. The waiting period for the Tigor EV sedan, on the other hand, is about one month for private buyers.

What's interesting is that the Tiago EV is finding customers beyond the regular metropolitan belts, and in states like Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Madya Pradesh – a trend that's different from what was observed with the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. In fact, customers in these states are actually opting for the longer range variant, but that could be due to the lack of charging infrastructure that's still sporadically available in and around large cities.

Tata Tiago EV: battery, range and powertrain details

The Tiago EV is powered by Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture, and, as mentioned before, it gets two battery packs. The Tiago EV with the smaller battery makes 61hp and 110Nm, while the larger battery makes 74hp and 114Nm.

The Tiago EV’s entry-level variants get the smaller battery pack, which gives it an MIDC range of 250km, while the higher variants get the bigger battery, giving it an MIDC range of 315km. The Tiago EV is capable of fast charging as well, and both battery packs can be topped from 10 percent to 80 percent in 57 minutes using a 50kW fast charger.

Upcoming Tata launches: 2023 and beyond

At Auto Expo 2023, Tata announced it will launch nine new cars and SUVs by 2025, and these will include a mix of ICE and EV models. Among those nine cars is the Tiago EV Blitz, which gets some cosmetic flourishes inside-out and will be launched in FY2024.
