Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo unveiled at Frankfurt

Skoda took the wraps off the Kamiq Monte Carlo at the Frankfurt Motor show 2019. The Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo joins Skoda’s top-spec Monte Carlo line-up that comprises a number of cars and SUVs globally.

In terms of styling, the most noticeable change on the Kamiq Monte Carlo are the gloss black accents on the exterior. The front is dominated by the gloss black grille which is accompanied by a glossy black lip on the bumper. On the side, the Monte Carlo gets black outside mirror caps and side skirts along with a unique set of diamond cut, 17-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, all the badges are finished in gloss black, as is the small diffuser on the rear bumper. In this trim, the Kamiq also gets LED headlights and tail-lights, a panoramic sunroof and gloss black roof rails.

Coming to the interiors, the Kamiq Monte Carlo features unique fabric upholstery around the cabin and sporty bucket seats in the front. The multi-function steering wheel is wrapped in perforated leather and has red contrast stitching, as do the gear lever and handbrake. There are also chrome inserts around the cabin. like on the AC vents and door handles, while the pedals get aluminium covers. The 9.2-inch, free-standing infotainment touchscreen and 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit display (digital instrument cluster) are also included.

There are no mechanical changes on the Kamiq Monte Carlo, as the SUV continues to use the two petrol engines and one diesel engine offered in the international market. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol unit is available in two states of tune – 95hp and 115hp, along with a larger 1.5 TSI petrol unit which produces 150hp. The diesel unit is the Skoda’s 1.6-litre diesel engine which produces 115hp.

For the Indian market, Skoda will bring a tweaked iteration of the Kamiq. It will be based on a heavily localised version of the VW Group’s MQB A0 platform called the MQB A0 IN. This move will be aimed to keep costs of the SUV in check. The Czech carmaker is also expected to offer a range of turbocharged petrol engines, with its current 1.5-litre diesel unit to be removed when the BS4 emission norms come into effect; the larger 2.0-litre diesel is deemed too big for the Kamiq. Skoda will also introduce an all-new sedan that will replace the Rapid after Kamiq SUV launches in India.
