Porsche has revealed the 992.2 911 Carrera S, which receives styling inspired by the Turbo, along with a 30hp bump in power. Unveiled in coupe and convertible forms, the 911 Carrera S facelift slots between the Carrera and the 911 GTS T-Hybrid and is claimed to match the performance of the previous GTS.

Power from the 3.0-litre flat-six turbo-petrol engine has increased from 450hp to 480hp, thanks to new turbochargers and what Porsche says is an “extensively optimised” cooling system. The refreshed 911 Carrera S Coupe sprints from 0-100kph in 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 308kph. For reference, the 541hp GTS T-Hybrid does the 0-100kph in 3 seconds. An 8-speed dual-clutch automatic sends power to the rear wheels.

Porsche has also used the larger 408mm front and 380mm rear discs from the GTS on the Carrera S, said to offer “outstanding rates of deceleration”. Ceramic discs are an optional extra, along with a sports suspension package that lowers the ride height by 10mm and adds rear steering. The German brand claims that optimised hydraulic dampers provide more precise responses, while adjustments to the steering make it “more direct” in the corners.

The refreshed 911 Carrera S gets more or less the same interior as its siblings, but unlike the base Carrera, the S gets optional leather upholstery on the dashboard, door panels and seat base.

On the outside, the 992.2 Carrera S features staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear bespoke alloy wheels, a sports exhaust system with silver tips and Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus system, which, as its name implies, employs a rear electronic differential to distribute torque to each wheel. The last feature is not available on the entry-level Carrera. The refreshed Carrera S has a more aggressive look overall, borrowing the wider rear arches and larger intakes from the previous 911 Turbo.
