MG is readying an update for Gloster SUV that will go on sale on August 31. Based on what is seen in the spy shot, it does not appear that MG has made any substantial changes to the SUV's exterior, however, there could be minor changes like tweaks to the exterior design. Sources tell us that the bigger change would be the addition of a new Advance I-Smart infotainment system and a variant rejig.

MG Gloster: more features, variants updated

Currently, the Gloster comes in a total of six variants, with both 6- and 7-seater options. The top-spec Savvy trim, gets the Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) feature, among other goodies.

While variant details remain unknown, MG Gloster could get a similar rejig that the Astor SUV recently received with EX variants that were equipped with lesser number of safety features.

    MG Gloster: infotainment system updates

The updated i-Smart tech will now offer more than 75 connected car features and buyers can use the app as a remote for audio, air conditioning and ambient lighting in addition to existing i-Smart functions. Earlier, i-Smart was compatible only to Apple Watch users, but with the update, it will be made accessible to Android-based smartwatch users as well.

MG says that the MapmyIndia-sourced navigation, will now give information about real-time weather and AQI, and it will also get an integrated ‘Discover App’ that makes it easy to search for hotels and restaurants. Additionally, it will come with the new Park Plus headunit app that lets users book and pay in advance for parking slots. MG will also add 35+ Hinglish commands.

    MG Gloster: powertrain and rivals

MG is unlikely to make any change under the hood, which means that the body-on-frame SUV will continue with the 163hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine and the 218hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine. With the Ford Endeavour now out of the competition, the MG Gloster locks horns with the Toyota Fortuner and the slow-selling Mahindra Alturas G4 and the recently launched Jeep Meridian. Additionally, it also sees competition with similarly priced SUVs like the new Hyundai Tucson, the Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming refreshed Citroen C5 Aircross
