    The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG has crossed the three-lakh-unit sales mark in India since its launch a decade ago. With this achievement, Maruti Suzuki claims the bi-fuel variant of the tall-boy hatchback to be the “highest-selling CNG (passenger) vehicle in the country.”

    Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG brief history

    The CNG variant of the Wagon R was first launched in our market in 2010 and it took the company four years to rake in one lakh customers. The next one lakh sales were achieved by 2017, with the company taking another three years to arrive at the milestone of three lakh cumulative sales.

    Commenting on the achievement, Shashank Srivastava, executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Since its debut in 1999, Wagon R has over 24 lakh happy customers and it’s the first car for nearly half of them. The milestone of three lakh sales of Wagon R S-CNG is yet another testament to the immense faith bestowed on us by our loyal customers. Maruti Suzuki has persistently strived to offer sustainable mobility options to its customers.”

    Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG engine details

    Currently in its third generation, the Wagon R features a 1.0-litre engine that puts out 68hp with petrol and 59hp with CNG. The natural gas variant comes equipped with a sole 5-speed manual gearbox, though the petrol-only option also presents the choice of a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission.

    There is also a more powerful, 83hp 1.2-litre engine available in mid and high-spec trims, though it lacks the option of a CNG variant.

    Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG mileage

    The bi-fuel version of the hatchback features a factory-fit CNG kit with a 10.8kg natural gas tank and a fuel economy of 33.54km/kg.

    Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG prices are pegged at Rs 5.25-5.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which translates into a Rs 80,000 premium over the equivalent petrol-only variants. The dual-fuel version is available only in the entry-spec LXi and LXi (O) trims, which get features like a driver airbag (passenger airbag as well on LXi (O) trim), rear parking sensors, high-speed alert, seatbelt reminder, ABS, front power windows and central locking.

    The Wagon R CNG competes with the Hyundai Santro CNG and Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG in our market.
