Maruti Suzuki has opened bookings for its new Invicto MPV for Rs 25,000, and customers can book it either on Maruti Suzuki’s website or through the Nexa chain of dealerships. The Invicto is a badge-engineered sibling of the Toyota Innova Hycross, and though the price announcement is on July 5, we expect it to be the first Maruti model that will be priced above the Rs 20 lakh mark in India.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto exterior and interior

To differentiate it from the Hycross, Maruti Suzuki will give the Invicto a different grille – two chrome slats, with one extending into the headlights. It will also get a slightly reworked bumper, new headlight and tail-light inserts and a unique alloy wheel design.

On the inside, the Invicto will also get minor tweaks to the upholstery as well as changes to the features list to keep costs in check.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto powertrains and variants

On the website, the Invicto is currently available to book only in the top-spec, 7-seat Alpha+ variant that will be powered by a 2.0-litre strong-hybrid powertrain, mated to an e-CVT. This will make the Invicto the first Maruti Suzuki to be offered solely with an automatic transmission. The Invicto will not be available with the 2.0-litre petrol engine that powers the entry-level Hycross variants.

    Maruti Suzuki Invicto positioning

The Invicto will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant alongside the Hycross, just like how Toyota produces the Grand Vitara and Hyryder simultaneously. As Maruti Suzuki will have to pay a royalty to Toyota for using the latter’s TNGA-C platform and the strong-hybrid powertrain, the Invicto's pricing will likely be more premium than the equivalent Hycross variant.

For reference, prices for the Hycross’ petrol variants range between Rs 18.55 lakh-19.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Prices for the Hycross hybrid range between Rs 25.03 lakh-29.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

    Maruti Suzuki Invicto rivals

The Maruti Suzuki Invicto will sit in the premium MPV segment and primarily rival its Toyota sibling, the Innova Hycross. It will also rival the Kia Carnival, but it is priced slightly higher (Rs 30.99 lakh-35.49 lakh).
