After weeks of drip-feeding teasers, Mahindra has finally revealed the Vision S concept in full on Independence Day. Its production version will most likely join the Mahindra Scorpio family, which currently includes the N and Classic SUVs. Prototypes of other Mahindra Vision cars - X, T and SXT - were also unveiled alongside the S.

  1. Vision S previews a compact SUV, measuring under 4 metres in length
  2. Underpinned by Mahindra’s NU_IQ monocoque modular platform
  3. Compatible with ICE, hybrid and electric powertrains

Mahindra Vision S concept exterior details

Inverted L-shaped lights, 19-inch wheels, kerbside stepladder

Mahindra Vision S front

The Twin Peaks logo at the front is flanked by a triplet of vertically stacked LEDs on either side, forming a bridge between the inverted L-shaped headlights. The bumper below appears to house a radar unit and parking sensors. Interestingly, the pixel-shaped fog lamps look very similar to the ones on the Hyundai Nexo. Limb risers on the bonnet and roof-mounted lights, though, may not make it to the production model.

Mahindra Vision S side profile

Moving on to the side, the high stance shows its off-road preparedness, with thick cladding under the doors as well as on the wheel arches. 19-inch rubber hugs the star-shaped wheels, behind which are red callipers and disc brakes. There’s even a stepladder on the kerb side and a jerry can on the right. We could spot cameras instead of traditional outside rearview mirrors, side steps and flush-fitting door handles, too.

Mahindra Vision S rear profile

Like at the front, the rear section is marked by inverted L tail-lights and a quartet of pixel lights on the bumper under them. Interestingly, the reflector units on the bumper are identical to the Bolero Neo, and the spare wheel is similarly mounted on the tailgate.

Mahindra Vision S interior and features

Dual screen setup, new steering wheel design, panoramic sunroof

“There will be a great combination of digital and physical,” Pratap Bose, chief design and creative officer at Mahindra, said while talking about cabin controls. The concept boasted a new steering wheel with the ‘VISION S’ lettering in its centre, and the digital driver’s display has fresh graphics. The central touchscreen will run the brand’s NU UX and is expected to offer wireless smartphone connectivity.

Mahindra Vision S seats and panoramic sunroof

Dual-tone upholstery for the dashboard, door trims and seats has been used; there’s a panoramic sunroof as well. Large grab handles at the rear are provided to facilitate easier climbing into the SUV.

Mahindra Vision S specs and platform details

Built on 2,665mm wheelbase; launch likely in 2027

Like the Vision T, SXT and X concepts, the S SUV is underpinned by Mahindra’s NU_IQ platform. This new monocoque base can accommodate SUVs with a length between 3,990mm and 4,320mm, and it supports petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts are supported, too. It isn’t clear which options will be offered with the production-spec Vision S. The concept featured a fuel cap, hinting at an ICE powertrain, with potential engine options being the familiar 1.2-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel.

Mahindra NU_IQ platform

The SUV gets a variable-ratio steering rack, designed to offer good handling despite its tall stance. A length of under 4 metres and a 2,665mm wheelbase, though, are confirmed on the upcoming vehicle. Notably, the latter is 5mm more than the XUV 3XO's base, which is currently the longest in the compact SUV segment. The production SUV based on the Vision S concept is expected to launch in 2027, with Mahindra likely to reveal more details about the highly anticipated model in the run-up to its debut.
