Mahindra has finally taken the wraps off its Vision X concept SUV at its ongoing Independence Day event. The concept SUV is expected to preview a new model from either the XUV brand (joining the XUV700 and XUV 3XO) or the XEV range, joining the XEV 9e. The Vision X is based on Mahindra's new modular NU_IQ platform, which is capable of supporting ICE, hybrid and electric powertrains.

The Mahindra Vision X concept has a sporty, crossover-like design, despite an upright stance and high ground clearance. The sculpted bonnet, the rake of the front windshield and the almost-coupe-like rear windscreen, along with the spoiler that is reminiscent of the BE 6's, add to the sporty look. However, the rear is far more upright than the XEV 9e's.

The nose has Mahindra's Twin Peaks logo, suggesting this would be a new XUV model, though the closed off and stylized grille indicates that it could also be a new XEV. The slim lighting elements at the front and rear and the front bumper and fog light clusters share cues with the XEV 9e.

Mahindra Vision X side profile

Black cladding runs from the front to the rear, framing the squared wheel arches that house the large, aero-designed dual-tone alloy wheels with low profile tyres. A silver side step aside, the sides of the Vision X concept look like a pronounced version of the XEV 9e's, from the flush-fitting door handles and to the creases in the doors.

Mahindra Vision X interior and features

Gets a curved and combined infotainment and instrument cluster

The most prominent aspect of the Vision X concept's interior is the combined display for the instrument cluster and infotainment screen; the latter curves towards the driver. There's a two-spoke steering wheel and a three-tone dashboard. The images shown by Mahindra also had rectangular air-con vents, and a large centre console with cup holders and storage, along with individual centre arm rests for the front passengers.

Mahindra Vision X engine and platform

Expected to be a compact SUV capable of having ICE, hybrid and EV options

Like the other concepts showcased today, the Vision X is based on Mahindra's NU_IQ platform, which is a monocoque architecture that can accomodate SUVs measuring from 3,990mm to 4,320mm in length. And like the other concepts, its wheelbase length is an identical 2,665mm. However, the Vision X is expected to be a sub-4-metre model, giving this Mahindra compact SUV an advantage over its rivals. For reference, the Mahindra's own XUV 3XO currently has the longest wheelbase in the segment, at 2,600mm.

Mahindra has not revealed any specifics on the engine options yet, but the NU_IQ architecture is capable of accomodating petrol, diesel, hybrid and all-electric powertrains.

Like the Vision T, SXT and S concepts, the production-spec Mahindra Vision X is expected to launch sometime in 2027.
