The new Mahindra Thar bookings will be opened from Friday, October 2, 2020, and pricing for the second-generation SUV will also be announced on the same day.

New Mahindra Thar engine, gearbox and off-road gear
One of the major highlights of the all-new Mahindra Thar is that it comes with a choice of two engines – a 152hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol along with a 132hp, 2.2-litre diesel. Both have 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options and get a 4x4 system as standard; a manual-shift transfer case with a low ratio is standard across all powertrain options. New Mahindra Thar variants
The new Thar will be sold in two trims, starting with the Thar AX that, according to Mahindra, is aimed at hardcore off-road enthusiasts, while the more expensive Thar LX will cater a set of customers who want more creature comforts as well as off-road capability.
The Thar AX does not get an automatic gearbox but comes with features like a mechanical locking differential, dual front airbags and a roll cage, while the more expensive Thar LX gets the option of an automatic gearbox for its petrol and diesel engines, along with a diesel-manual version as well.
The Thar AX gets only a fixed fabric soft-top, while the Thar LX can be purchased either with a convertible soft top or a hard top. Mahindra Thar price and deliveries
Mahindra has begun an online auction for the first unit of the Thar, with proceeds going to charity. Other customers will be able to configure and book their Thar SUV officially from October 2, 2020 as mentioned above.
Deliveries of the new Thar are expected to begin sometime in late October, according to dealer sources.
As far as pricing goes, we expect the new Mahindra Thar to be priced in the range of Rs 12-15 lakh (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale on October 2, 2020 which also happens to be Mahindra’s 75th Founders’ Day.
