The XEV 9e coupe

Mahindra will reveal the production-ready BE.05 SUV and the XUV.e9 on November 26 in Chennai. The production-spec born-electric SUVs will be named BE 6e and XEV 9e, respectively, and as spy shots have shown, both these INGLO platform-based models are expected to be radically designed, just like the concepts they are based on.

  1. BE 6e may get 60kWh and 79kWh battery options
  2. BE 6e expected to have RWD and AWD versions
  3. XEV 9e likely to be offered in RWD form only

Mahindra BE 6e to rival Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV

Mahindra BE 6e top teaser

The BE 6e will sit above Mahindra’s XUV400 electric SUV and will be pitted against the Tata Curvv EV and upcoming models such as the Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti eVX. As for dimensions, the concept was 4,370mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,635mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,775mm. The production BE 6e is likely to have the same dimensions, which means it will be as large as Maruti’s born EV, the eVX.

As we had reported when we had exclusive spy shots of the BE 6e, Mahindra aims for the radically styled e-SUV to pull in customers who want a distinct road presence and a lot of tech. The spy shots also showed an interior that is very similar to the concept shown in 2022 – a twin-screen setup and a unique wraparound element that extends from the dashboard to the centre console could be seen.

The Mahindra BE 6e is expected to be offered in RWD and AWD forms and with two battery options: 60kWh and 79kWh. While the latter is expected to go 450km on a single charge, both versions will come with ultra-fast charging capabilities.

Mahindra XEV 9e likely to take on Tata Harrier EV

Mahindra XEV 9e rear teaser

Based on what we had previously seen of the XEV 9e, Mahindra hopes to attract executives who want the space, comfort and practicality of an SUV in a stylish package with this all-electric coupe SUV. Likely to be offered in RWD form only, the XEV 9e will share its battery pack and powertrain with the BE 6e. A highlight on the inside will be the three-screen display, which includes a dedicated screen for the front passenger. Other bits in the cabin are expected to be shared with the XUV700 that’s currently on sale. While the XEV e9 will have no direct rivals at launch, the Harrier EV is expected to be offered at a similar price point.

More details about Mahindra’s first models in the BE and XEV range will be revealed in the coming days. Stay tuned.
