The Land Rover Defender has received a series of subtle updates, bringing new tech features as well as minor design tweaks. There are also a bunch of new accessories on offer enhancing its off-road cred. Let’s take a closer look.

  1. Exterior gets revised lighting signatures, new colours
  2. New features include driver drowsiness detection system
  3. Powertrain and body style lineup remains unchanged

New colour options, optional accessories and wheel designs

You’d be really hard-pressed to identify the updates on the new Defender, but they come in the form of revised headlamps and tail-lamps – the headlamps have a smaller centre LED DRL section, while the tail-lamps get a smoked finish; fog lamps are now standard. There’s also a new gloss black bar across the grille and the front and rear bumpers are now painted in either silver or satin grey.

There’s also a new textured finish for the bonnet and fender inserts, the wheel centre caps now read ‘Defender’ instead of Land Rover, there are new 22-inch 7-spoke alloy wheel options and new colour options to choose from, including a new Patagonia White Matte exterior wrap for the Octa and all V8 models.

On the accessories front, the Defender gets a new expedition roof rack, crossbars, and underbody protection. The Octa also gets a 4,500 kg-rated winch option with a carbon-fibre cover. The Defender 130 also gets an integrated air compressor option that can help adjust the tyre pressure when off-roading.

2025 Land Rover Defender feature updates

Larger touchscreen, new driver attention monitor

The biggest talking point is a new 13.1-inch touchscreen, up from the 11.4-inch unit of the outgoing Defender. This new touchscreen has filled the gap between the centre console and the dashboard.

There’s also a new driver-facing infrared camera on the steering column for monitoring driver attention – a system mandated by the European Union’s GSR2 legislation. The system sends audio or visual alerts if it detects that the driver is being inattentive, although it can be adjusted or disabled altogether using the driver assistance settings in the infotainment. Yet another notable addition is an off-road adaptive cruise control feature that’s available as an optional extra for the first time on the Defender.

2025 Land Rover Defender body styles and powertrains

The 2025 model continues to be available in Defender 90, Defender 110 and Defender 130 body styles, and the powertrain line-up remains unchanged, too. In India, the Defender is offered with as many as five engine options – there’s a 2.0-litre petrol, a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid, a 3.0-litre diesel, a 5.0-litre V8 and a 4.4-litre V8.

The updated Defender has already gone on sale in the UK, and it can be expected to make it to India very soon. The Defender range in India is currently priced between Rs 1.05 crore to Rs 2.79 crore (ex-showroom).
