Kia Syros EV launched

The Kia Syros EV has been launched in India with prices ranging between Rs 13.50 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s also available with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, under which prices start at Rs 7.99 lakh, and Rs 3.3 is charged additionally per kilometre of usage. This is Kia’s most affordable electric model in India and the brand’s second mass-market EV offering after the Carens Clavis. It is, however, more expensive than its direct rivals, the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. Deliveries of the Syros EV will begin from July 30.

  1. Syros EV offers up to 526km range with 51.4kWh battery
  2. Gets segment-only rear-seat ventilation, reclining and sliding functions
  3. Exterior and interior design remains largely unchanged from ICE Syros

Here’s a look at the full price list of the Kia Syros:

The Kia Syros EV is available in five trims: HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and X-Line. The smaller battery pack is available on the first three, while the larger battery is available from the second-from-the-base trim. Kia is also providing a lifetime battery warranty and an assured buyback programme that offers a resale value of up to 80 percent after 3 years.

Kia Syros EV battery, range and specs

The Kia Syros EV gets two battery pack options – 42kWh and 51.4kWh – the same as the Kia Carens Clavis EV and Hyundai Creta Electric. However, as the Syros EV is much smaller, it offers much more range. Kia is claiming a segment-best 526km ARAI range for the 51.4kWh variants and a 443km figure for the 42kWh version.

The 51.4kWh version uses a 171hp/255Nm front-axle motor, while the 42kWh version gets it in 135hp/255Nm state of tune. The claimed 0-100kph sprint time is 8.1 seconds in the 51.4kWh guise. The Syros EV is also significantly more powerful than its immediate rivals, the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

Kia is providing 7.4kW and 10.8kW AC charger options. Using the former, the smaller battery can be topped up from 10 to 100 percent in 6 hours, while the larger battery would take 7 hours and 15 minutes. Meanwhile, using a 100kW DC fast charger, the 51.4kWh battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 39 minutes.

Kia Syros EV exterior and interior

Compared to the ICE-powered Syros, not much has changed on the outside or inside. The only difference on the exterior is a charging port on the front fender instead of a traditional fuel filler port at the rear of the car. The front and rear lighting signatures, body cladding, inserts on the bumpers and even the 17-inch alloy wheels are the same as those on the ICE-powered Syros.

Kia is offering the Syros EV in nine colour options, including Glacier White Pearl, Frost Blue, Gravity Grey, Pewter Olive, Magma Red, Ivory Silver Matte, Ivory Silver Gloss and Aurora Black Pearl. The X-Line trim is available only in Xclusive Matte Graphite and Aurora Black Pearl.

Inside, the highlight remains the Trinity Panoramic Display, comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen and a 5.0-inch unit for the climate controls. The Syros EV also gets features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Depending on the trim, there are three interior themes available: Cloud Blue/Grey, Onyx Black/Off-White and Onyx Black/Hunter Green.

Kia has also carried over the combustion-powered Syros’s signature sliding, reclining and ventilated rear seats here on the EV, and the front seats are powered and ventilated as well. Other equipment highlights include a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, rear sunshades and a dual-camera dashcam. There’s a small 16-litre frunk, too. On the safety front, the Syros EV gets Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) along with 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera setup, ESC, hill-start assist, front parking sensors, electronic parking brake and more.
