Following the launch of the petrol-powered Bayon this month, Hyundai has confirmed that it will launch the midsize SUV’s CNG version in January 2027. This lines up with our prior report that the Bayon would be offered with petrol and factory-fitted CNG powertrain options.

Hyundai Bayon CNG: What to expect
What community is saying on the Bayon?

The Bayon CNG is expected to retain the petrol version’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, albeit with a slightly lower output – for perspective, the petrol Bayon makes 115hp and 144Nm. This will make the Bayon the biggest Hyundai India model to offer a CNG option. Like the CNG variants of the Maruti Victoris, the Bayon CNG is likely to feature an underbody tank to keep boot space unchanged from the petrol version.
A 6-speed manual gearbox will likely be paired with the Bayon CNG, though it remains to be seen if a CVT automatic will also be available. It also remains to be seen how Hyundai will distribute CNG variants in the larger Bayon line-up. It could go the Maruti/Toyota route and make CNG available in a few lower-spec trims or offer it as a true petrol alternative across most of, if not the entire, Bayon line-up.
Pricing for the Bayon is yet to be announced, but expect the CNG variants to command a slight premium over the petrol versions. The Bayon CNG will directly take on the likes of the Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, as well as the Toyota Hyryder.
