BMW 220i Gran Coupe M Sport launched at Rs 40.90 lakh

Petrol version of the 2-series four-door coupe is available in a single M Sport guise.

BMW has expanded its 2 Series Gran Coupe range in India by launching the 220i M Sport variant, at an introductory price of Rs 40.90 lakh. The petrol-powered version of the sedan joins the two diesel variants, the 220d Sport Line and the 220d M Sport, that were launched in October last year.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé 220i: Engine details

The 2 Series Gran Coupé 220i is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine putting out 190hp and 280Nm of torque. It is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. BMW claims a 0-100kph time of 7.1s for the 220i.

In terms of features, the 220i M Sport comes equipped with a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, cruise control, paddle shifters, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, automatic climate control, powered front seats, rear view camera, six airbags, ABS, ESC and traction control.   

Being an M Sport model, the 220i gets a chrome-heavy front grille, sportier front and rear bumpers, side skirts, ‘M’ badges on the front fenders and a blacked-out window line. The M Sport also runs on larger 18-inch alloys. Inside, it gets an M Sport steering wheel and aluminium pedals.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: Rivals and more

Being the entry point to BMW’s sedan portfolio, the 2 Series Gran Coupe will compete with other entry-level sedan offerings from rival luxury brands. It will rival the Mercedes-Benz A-class Limousine, which is expected to be introduced by the end of November, and the second-gen Audi A3 sedan that will see its India launch sometime in 2021.   

In India, the German carmaker is currently gearing up to launch the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine on January 21. A replacement for the soon-to-be discontinued 3 Series Gran Turismobookings for the LWB 3 Series have been opened for Rs 50,000.
