I want to buy a sedan with an average annual running of around 5,000 km, including long-distance drive. My budget is under Rs. 50 lakh. Please suggest a suitable option. I am looking for a replacement for my X1 and would like something that is equally good or better.

There aren't many sedans left in the market, especially at that price range, but with your low yearly use and a Rs 50 lakh budget cap, the Audi A4 is the right fit. It feels just as solid and quiet as your BMW X1, but with a comfier ride and a quieter cabin on highways. With your usage, a petrol engine's running costs should be palatable, and the A4’s seats and sound insulation make long drives easy. It is also easy to drive in the city, with light controls and good all-around visibility for a sedan. Alternatively, the Toyota Camry - though it doesn't have a luxury badge - is among the best all-rounders for the money, offering space, comfort, mileage and tech on par with the best.

Two things to note coming from the X1: you sit lower, so the view of the road is not as high, and speed breakers need a bit more care than in your old, taller car.

If you want to stay in the BMW family and enjoy a sportier feel, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is also within budget. It is fun and feels premium, but the back seat is less spacious, the engine is less powerful, and the ride is firmer than the A4. If you are open to an EV and have home charging, the BYD Seal brings strong performance and a very premium cabin car under Rs 50 lakh.

It is compact enough to be easy to manoeuvre and park, while offering a significant step up in comfort, safety and overall refinement. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is reliable, fuel efficient and well suited to hilly terrain, while the higher ground clearance is useful on uneven roads. It is not the most powerful engine in the segment, but performance is adequate for your requirements. If your budget allows, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol Maruti Suzuki Brezza LXi could also be a very good fit. It is competitively priced and would feel like a more substantial upgrade over your Alto.

I am a family of five and am actively looking for a big diesel car. Currently, I am driving Eon. I have finally shortlisted Crysta and Scorpio N Z8. I loved the performance of both engines with Scorpio N being more refined whereas Crysta offers better comfort and stability was good. My father is more inclined towards Crysta while I am leaning towards Scorpio. Should I be bothered by Crysta three-airbag setup?

Go for the Toyota Innova Crysta as it is the better family car here. It is more comfortable, more spacious and more stable on the highway, which is exactly what you want in a big diesel family car. The Scorpio N is the more exciting car to drive, but the Crysta is the car you will appreciate more over years of ownership.On the 3-airbag question: it's only on the lower variants while the higher variant come with 7 airbags . The Crysta is a fundamentally strong and well-engineered car with a proven safety record so it shouldn't be a cause for concern. The Scorpio N does get more safety features, but the Crysta's overall package of comfort, reliability and long-term ownership experience outweighs that.You are coming from an Eon, so this is a big upgrade. The Crysta will feel like a huge step up in comfort, space and refinement.

I am confused between Creta SX IVT and Elevate CVT for 8000 km of annual running with long trips of 1200 km 3-4 times in a year for a family of 4. Apart from this, day to day usage is less than 100km per month. I am looking for a car for long term ownership and travel comfort.

The Creta SX IVT is the better fit for your requirement. It offers a quieter, more refined cabin, comfortable rear seats and a smoother CVT, which are particularly valuable when spending several hours on the highway with four people and luggage. Autocar's long term experience with the Creta petrol IVT also found it refined, comfortable and particularly well suited to road trips.The Honda Elevate CVT has advantages of its own. Its 220mm ground clearance, long travel suspension and large 458-litre boot make it particularly good on poor roads, while its naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine and CVT make for a relatively simple powertrain. However, the cabin is noticeably noisier, particularly when accelerating hard, and the CVT can produce the typical rubber band effect.

The Toyota Innova Hycross facelift is expected to launch in early 2027. Toyota has already been testing the updated Hycross in India, with spy shots showing a revised front end, new lighting elements and a redesigned bumper.
