Suzuki e Vitara reveal at Auto Expo 2025

Suzuki Motor president, Toshihiro Suzuki, stated at the reveal of the Maruti e Vitara at the Auto Expo 2025 that all its electric vehicles for global markets will be manufactured in India. Suzuki plans to export the vehicles to Japan as well as European markets, despite a slowdown in EV sales. He noted that the company decided to focus all its EV production in a single location after undertaking a detailed study.

  1. Maruti Suzuki to offer free installation for EV chargers
  2. Suzuki will export its EVs from India to over 100 countries

The production of the e Vitara SUV is expected to commence in a few months at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, where it will also manufacture and export the badge-engineered Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. “We should leverage our global economies of scale and concentrate manufacturing at a single location for the world. For this purpose, we have chosen India as the global manufacturing base due to its quality products and scale merit,” he said.

“From here, we will export to more than 100 countries. In India, we will utilise all our resources to build a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) ecosystem to offer our customers an experience with total peace of mind. This will ensure that customers feel very comfortable and confident when making the BEV choice.”

Besides scaling production, Suzuki plans to strengthen its charging network through the ‘e for me’ initiative. Under this, fast-charging networks in top 100 cities will be provided, expanding to other cities later. Hisashi Takeuchi, CEO and MD of Maruti Suzuki, said the company’s goal is to have a charging point every 5-10km within these cities. Additionally, the company is setting up over 1,500 EV-enabled service workshops across 1,000 cities, with free installation of home chargers to buyers.

Also a part of this initiative is a new mobile app, which will let customers locate nearby charging stations, check real-time availability of slots, charge their vehicles and make payments. Further, the app will provide roadside assistance across India, including support for situations where the battery runs out.
