Tata Motors has been constantly releasing teasers of its Auto Expo line-up for quite a few days now. The latest teaser from the company provides details of its upcoming H2X concept-based micro-SUV that will be revealed in its production-spec at the event.
For those who don’t know, the H2X concept was shown at the previous Auto Expo in 2018 and was touted as an urban micro-SUV that will sit below the Nexon compact SUV, which has recently been updated. The company has already begun road-testing this vehicle in India, as we’ve seen over the past few weeks, and is expected to arrive in Tata showrooms across India later this year.
The new Tata micro-SUV is expected to have similar dimensions as the concept. This means, a length of 3,840mm, width of 1,822mm and a 1,635mm height – along with a 2,450mmwheelbase – can be expected. These dimensions make the Tata micro-SUV slightly bigger than SUV-inspired hatchbacks like the Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. In fact, it is even larger than the Mahindra KUV100 NXT on every metric except height.
The production-spec H2X (Codename: X445) is expected to carry a lot of styling cues over from the concept. This includes an upright and slightly boxy look and Harrier-like split headlamps. Chunky alloy wheels with muscular contours on the doors and fenders, and triangle-shaped tail-lights have been also been confirmed via the official teaser. On the inside, the interior will get unique cuts and creases, along will multiple colour-coded bits. Higher variants will also come with a free-standing infotainment screen and a large sunroof, according to sources.
This new micro-SUV is underpinned by Tata’s ALFA modular platform, which made its debut in the Altroz hatchback quite recently.
Under the hood, expect the production-spec H2X to come with a BS6-compliant, 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual, though an AMT-equipped version will be introduced at a later stage. There are talks of an EV version too, which will feature Tata’s Ziptron technology that was introduced to the Indian market with the Nexon EV recently.
Along with the production-spec Tata H2X micro-SUV, the brand will also unveil the seven-seat Gravitas SUV, the BS6-compliant Harrier and a long list of other passenger and commercial vehicles at the event that starts on February 7 for the general public.
