I am a 47-year-old male (5 ft 9 in, 85 kg) looking to buy a long-term, reliable, strong and powerful scooter. My daily city commute is about 15-20 km, and my budget is up to ₹1.5 lakh. I am currently considering the TVS Ntorq 150, TVS Jupiter 125, Suzuki Access 125 and Honda Activa 125. Are there any other scooters I should consider? Please advise.

The TVS Ntorq 150 is the most powerful scooter in your shortlist, and it will also be the most fun to ride. It is also the most feature-packed, with a TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity, riding modes and a host of other features. The TVS Jupiter 125 is a more practical option, with plush ride quality and a huge 33-litre underseat storage space. The Suzuki Access 125 is a family scooter with peppy performance that should be very reliable and fuel-efficient, too. The Honda Activa 125 doesn't have any one standout feature, but is a proven package you can't really go wrong with.Take a test ride of all four so you can pick the one that best suits your needs.

I want to buy a powerful bike like the Duke 390 or one of the Royal Enfield 650s, but I do not have the budget right now. For the time being, I want to buy a bike or scooter that is smooth and vibration-free, as smoothness is my only major criterion. I feel the Suzuki Access 125 is the right choice. Do you have any better alternatives for me? I plan to use this scooter or bike for 5-8 years and then upgrade to the bike I love after saving up.

In the scooter space, the Suzuki Access is a great option because it has a turbine smooth engine, has cemented its reputation for reliability and is quite practical and comfortable too. You can also take a look at the TVS Jupiter models, which have the biggest boot on an Indian-made petrol scooter, as well as great ride and stability with their 12-inch wheels at both ends.Lastly, you can also take a look at the Honda Activa models, which are a safe bet, and you can't go wrong with either of them.

I'm planning to buy a two-wheeler for my father, preferably a scooter. My budget is around Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1 lakh. It will be used mainly for city commuting, with a maximum daily running of 20-25 km. Should I go for an ICE scooter or an EV? Also, which model would you recommend?

Within your budget, there are only two EVs from reputed brands available, like the Vida (Hero) VX2 Go 2.2 and TVS Orbiter V2 (3.1kWh battery). These have enough range for a 25km daily loop and will surely help reduce your running costs to a great extent. If you have a secure charging location, then opting for an EV definitely makes sense. They have gentle but surefooted performance, and to decide between these two, take a test ride before you make your decision. If, however, you are not keen on making the switch to an EV, then sticking with proven options like Honda Activa 110, TVS Jupiter 110 and Suzuki Access 125 makes sense. The Activa and Jupiter are slightly more frugal than the Access, which consequently has zippier performance. All three are proven products, and you should go for the one you gel with the most on your test ride.

I currently own a 2007 Hero Honda Glamour and want to buy a new two-wheeler. I am confused between the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Access and an electric scooter. My monthly fuel budget is around Rs. 1,500. My office is 16 km from home, and I commute there three days a week. Please suggest the best option considering running costs, reliability, fuel efficiency, low maintenance and long-term ownership.

With your monthly budget for fuel, you can definitely purchase a petrol scooter, and with gentle riding, you may even be able to come under that mark. If you want the typical strengths of a family scooter combined with peppy performance, then the Suzuki Access is to be considered over the 110cc TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa, otherwise the 110s will perform just fine. If you really want the lowest running cost and have home charging, an electric scooter like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ather Rizta, and Vida VX2 will cut your monthly running costs quite significantly, and maintenance, too, is minimal. Given your low usage, the fuel savings over a petrol-powered scooter will take some time to recoup. And in case of a spontaneous situation presenting itself, fuelling up a petrol-powered scooter is a much faster process than juicing up an e-scooter's battery. Take a call between the two based on your usage pattern and then make your decision.

Please advise on the best lightweight scooter for a female rider.

One of the lightest ICE scooters in India is the TVS Zest 110, which weighs just 102kg and has just a 760mm seat height, attributes that should make it very approachable for those vertically challenged. Even popular options like the Honda Activa, Suzuki Access and TVS Jupiter are manageable in terms of weight, weighing between 105-106kg and low seat heights ranging between 760-780mm. These should also be easy to manage while being more feature rich than the Zest, which is now a fundamentally very old product.Since you're keen on getting a scooter that's easy to manage, take test rides of all four before you make your decision.
