I previously owned a Hero Karizma R and later switched to a Honda Shine 125. I am now considering buying a cruiser-style motorcycle. I am 5’4” tall, and my riding is mostly bumper-to-bumper city traffic. Please suggest suitable options that I should test ride.

Since you have mentioned you want a cruiser style bike to ride in the city and keeping your stature in mind, your choices boil down to the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and its sibling, the Goan Classic 350.
Both of these Royal Enfield bikes have low seat heights, which should help you plant your feet on the ground and aid confidence when negotiating stop-and-go traffic. Do bear in mind that these bikes with their feet forward and relaxed riding positions will put a lot of weight on your tailbone and transfer road bumps to your spine, so its worth taking a test ride to see whether or not you can live with this sort of position daily.
If you want a lighter bike, then the TVS Ronin is a good option, although its seat height is a fair deal taller than the two RE 350s. Provided you have the confidence to manage a bike on your tiptoes, you can consider the TVS bike.

I am 58 years old and 5′5″ tall, and I have been riding motorcycles for the last 35 years, all of which were 100–125 cc. I want to continue riding just for the fun of it. Which bike should I select? I am looking for something in the 350 cc range.

In the 350cc category, bikes like the Royal Enfield Hunter / Bullet / Classic 350, Honda CB350 trio and TVS Ronin - which is smaller but has comparable performance - are our top picks. Pick the one you like the look and riding experience of the most because all bikes are proven machines that will last you a long time.

If you want something with a low seat height, the RE Hunter (790mm), Meteor (765mm) and Goan Classic (750mm) are your best bets.

A test ride will help you decide.

I currently ride a well-maintained 2017 Avenger Street 220 Matte Black, chosen mainly for its low saddle height since I’m 5'2". I now want to upgrade but am unsure which bike will suit my height. I need something reliable, long-lasting, and suitable for daily use.

If you want to stick to the cruiser format, we would recommend the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 (seat height: 765mm) and the Royal Enfield Goan Classic 350 (seat height: 750mm).

Do bear in mind that these bikes - while fairly low - weigh close to 200kg, so you will need some time to adjust to their weights. If you're open to another form factor - more specifically, a sporty-looking street naked - we would steer you toward the Honda CB300F

That's because with its light 153kg weight and approachable 789mm seat height, it will be a very manageable bike.

Take a test ride of everything you shortlist before making the final decision.

I am 5′2″ (157 cm) tall - is it okay for me to buy the Meteor 350?

The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has one of the lowest seat heights in the class and is a bike that will be good for shorter riders to get comfortable with. We would also recommend taking a look at the Royal Enfield Goan Classic 350 because that has a seat that's lower still.

Take proper test rides before you decide.

Hi, I’m 47 years old, 6 ft tall, and my son is 21 years old, 6’3″ tall. I’m looking to buy a Royal Enfield Classic 350, but my son is interested in the Classic 650. My main concern is mileage, as we’ll do more than 95% city driving. Could you please suggest which bike suits us better?

Since almost all of your usage is going to be in the city, going for the Royal Enfield Classic 650 doesn't make sense because its rear suspension is quite stiff, and in traffic, its 243kg kerb weight will be a task to deal with, especially considering the way the engine will splay your legs out. You are right to worry about fuel efficiency because the 648cc twin is not very fuel efficient at slow city speeds, especially considering the bike's 243kg kerb weight.

The Classic 350 is a lovely bike to use inside the city with its upright ergonomics, plush suspension and torquey, soulful engine. The Goan Classic is also something you can take a look at if you like its custom bike look, although it does trade off a little bit of practicality and comfort to the Classic.

I'm looking for a classic retro motorcycle in the ₹2.0–2.5 lakh range that suits a 5'3" rider of average build. It will be used mainly for city riding and occasional highway trips (under 100 km/week). Any suggestions?

Considering your budget, height and build, the retro motorcycles we would recommend are the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Hunter 350. Both have low seat heights, and the lighter Hunter is also more manageable inside the city. If you like the way it looks, you may also consider the Goan Classic 350 because it has a low seat, which will be helpful for your stature.

The Honda CB350 trio are also a good city-focused neo-retro model but they have a seat height of 800mm or more, so we'd suggest taking a test ride to see which one fits you best.
