The BMW F 450 GS successfully delivers the premium feel expected from the GS family. Inspired by the larger R 1300 GS, it has a sleek adventure-bike design that looks modern and instantly recognisable. The quality of materials, paint finish, and overall fit and finish are excellent, making the motorcycle feel genuinely premium. The only minor concern is that the fuel tank stickers can wear where the rider’s knees make contact.

The F 450 GS offers an open and spacious riding position that suits both daily riding and long-distance touring. Once on the move, the motorcycle feels light and easy to manage, although the tall seat height can be intimidating for shorter riders. The suspension delivers a comfortable ride over rough roads, offering a good balance between comfort and control. It is slightly firmer than some rivals, allowing more road feedback while remaining composed on broken surfaces.

Power comes from a smooth and refined parallel-twin engine that delivers strong torque from low revs. The engine remains relaxed while cruising at higher speeds, and vibrations are well controlled through most of the rev range. The light clutch and smooth gearbox make everyday riding effortless. The optional Easy Ride Clutch automatically handles clutch operation. However, it can roll backwards on slopes, and some riders may prefer the control offered by a conventional manual clutch.

One of the F 450 GS's biggest strengths is its lightweight chassis. It feels agile, confidence-inspiring and easy to manoeuvre on both paved roads and trails. The suspension handles rough terrain well, while the balanced chassis provides predictable handling and stability. Off-road capability is impressive, with good standing ergonomics, useful ground clearance and a smooth engine that makes technical sections easier to tackle. Braking performance is strong, although the rear brake could offer better modulation off-road.

BMW equips the F 450 GS with a large 6.5-inch TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity, riding modes, lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, dynamic brake control and motor slip regulation as standard. Heated grips are also included across the range. However, cruise control is unavailable, while the quickshifter and adjustable suspension are limited to higher variants. The feature distribution between variants could have been more flexible.

The F 450 GS feels like a true member of BMW’s GS family, offering premium quality, refined performance, excellent handling and capable adventure-touring ability. Although the tall seat, Easy Ride Clutch and feature availability may not suit everyone, it delivers a well-rounded riding experience and stands out as an appealing entry point into BMW’s adventure motorcycle range.
