Bajaj Auto has become the third Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer to achieve the 10 lakh retail sales milestone in India, after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Company. Since its launch in January 2020, the company has delivered 10,01,135 Chetaks to its customers in the domestic market. This is as per the cumulative retail sales numbers on the Vahan portal (November 6, 2026). Surging demand for the Chetak this year has meant that it surpassed both the 3 lakh units and 4 lakh-unit milestones for the first time and could even nudge the 5 lakh-unit mark.
Bajaj Chetak sales trajectory over the years
While the Bajaj Chetak’s sales in the initial years were tepid mainly as a result of a nascent market and the company’s small EV-specific sales network, demand for the Chetak rose strongly in 2024 when 2,01,167 units were delivered to customers, up 168 percent YoY (2023: 75,112 units), giving Bajaj Auto the No. 3 rank after Ola Electric (2,77,610 units) and TVS Motor Co (1,77,024 units).
2025 saw the Chetak’s numbers rise 39 percent YoY to 2,79,691 units, which made Bajaj Auto the No. 2 e2W OEM for the first time, behind market leader TVS (3,15,087 units) and ahead of Ather Energy (2,14,985 units).
2026 is proving to be a stellar year for the Chetak, which, along with rival products like the TVS iQube and the Ather Rizta, is powering the Indian e2W industry to a record 2 million-plus sales this year. Year to date, the Bajaj Chetak has sold 4,12,409 units, up 73 percent YoY.
Chetak’s market share has risen over fivefold in five years
The rapid rise in the Chetak’s sales is reflected in its growing e2W market share. In 2022, the Chetak (26,758 units) had a 4 percent share of total Indian electric two-wheeler sales of 6,61,636 units. The Chetak’s market share entered double-digits for the first time in 2024 when the e-scooter accounted for 17 percent of total sales, and that increased to 21 percent in 2025.
Year to date (January 1-November 6), with 4,12,409 units sold, it has a 22 percent market share of the 1.83 million e2Ws sold in India. This is second only to market leader TVS Motor’s 26 percent share. The Chetak’s rapid growth throughout 2026 is reflected in the quarterly performance. Q1 (January-March 2026: 1,00,615 units) marked a 24 percent YoY increase (Q1 2025: 80,961 units).
While Q2 (April-June 2026: 1,17,679 units) was a 17 percent increase over Q1, Q3 (July-September 2026) was even better with 1,36,040 units, 16 percent better than Q2. Q4 (October-December 2026), which opened with a record 49,170 units in October – Bajaj’s highest monthly retail sales to date – and festive November underway, could turn out to be the best quarter for the Chetak to date.
With 4,12,409 units sold year to date, Bajaj Auto is 69,295 units behind e2W market leader TVS Motor Co (4,81,704 units) but ahead of Ather Energy (2,99,778 units), Vida (2,07,583 units), Ola Electric (1,21,061 units) and Greaves Electric Mobility (84,245 units). These top six OEMs’ combined sales of 1.60 million units account for 88 percent of the 18,32,799 e2Ws sold between January 1 and November 6 this year in the domestic market.
With 55 days left for 2026 to come to a close, Bajaj Auto needs to sell an additional 87,591 units to achieve the 5 lakh-unit milestone this year. Diwali-festooned November could see the company reap a bumper harvest of Chetak sales, maybe even over 50,000 units for the first time in a month. The year-ending December will provide the clincher, so stay plugged in for the latest analysis.
