Hey Autocar, I am a college student planning to get either an electric scooter or a motorcycle. I travel around 25 to 30 km every day, usually with a friend. I need to carry several items, including two helmets and bags. My budget is around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. I live in an apartment and can get the charging setup settled, but I am unsure which vehicle to get. Thanks in advance!
You should look at electric scooters with 3kWh battery packs, which will give you a more than sufficient real-world range of around 100km on a single charge and should also come in around the Rs 1.50 lakh mark. In the e-scooter market, you should look at market frontrunners such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ather Konarc (or even the Rizta) and Vida VX2 models. These are all proven options from reputed makes, and it would make sense to go for one that has a sales and service point near your residence or college campus for ease of ownership.
Of them all, the Rizta and Chetak have the most well-designed and spacious boots, with the Konarc and iQube trailing them closely. Depending on the battery variant you choose, the Vida is either on par with the Konarc/iQube or slightly below it, but you should have decent storage on all.
Take test rides of these before you make a decision.
