Midsize SUVs offer a great middle ground in terms of size – easy to drive daily yet big enough to accommodate a family of five. Since boot space plays a significant role in practicality, we’ve ranked 10 midsize SUVs with the highest carrying capacities. The rankings are in ascending order of boot space, and the method of measurement considered is up to the parcel tray, not the roof.

Note: While Skoda claims a 491-litre boot capacity for the 2026 Kushaq facelift, the unchanged shape of the luggage bay indicates that it’s now being measured up to the roof instead of the parcel tray. This would mean that, measuring up to the parcel tray, the 2026 Kushaq’s boot space remains identical to the outgoing model at 385 litres, thereby excluding it from this list.

10. Hyundai Creta

Boot space: 433 litres

While the Hyundai Creta is the sales champion in the midsize SUV segment, it ranks quite low in terms of boot space. At 433 litres, the Creta’s carrying capacity is just about adequate compared to rivals. The left-rear wheel arch does eat into the luggage bay a bit, but the rear seats can be folded in a 60:40 split to liberate additional space.

8. Mahindra Thar Roxx

Boot space: 447 litres

Despite what its large and rugged exterior may lead you to believe, the 447-litre boot of the Mahindra Thar Roxx places it in the lower rungs of this list. The old-school split-opening tailgate mechanism looks cool but can be a bother, especially during rainy weather or when you’re on an incline. The Thar Roxx’s boxy proportions and high roof handle light weekend shopping well, but you will have to fold down the rear seats if there are bigger items to be stowed.

7. Kia Seltos

Boot space: 447 litres

Launched at the onset of 2026, the second-gen Kia Seltos moves up a notch in terms of exterior dimensions. This includes a 447-litre boot capacity – 14 litres larger than the prior Seltos and matched with the Thar Roxx – with a full-sized spare tyre underneath. While the boot floor is flat to help load luggage easily, the lip is a touch too high off the ground.

6. MG Astor

Boot space: 448 litres

The MG Astor finds itself in sixth position courtesy of its 448-litre boot. Its square shape, flat floor and decently sized aperture reduce the effort required during loading or unloading, though the protruding rear wheel arches may limit the horizontal space you might require for longer items. To handle such situations, the Astor also gets 60:40 split-folding rear seats.

5. Tata Sierra

Boot space: 450 litres

The reborn Tata Sierra went on sale at the tail end of 2025 to much aplomb and is among the largest midsize SUVs. Though Tata claims a 622-litre boot capacity for the Sierra, this figure is calculated up to the roof. Measuring up to the parcel tray, the Sierra’s boot space is 450 litres. While not class-leading, the Sierra’s boot does have a wide opening and fairly low loading lip for ease of hauling luggage into the bay.

4. Honda Elevate

Boot space: 458 litres

One look at its well-shaped boot will tell you why the Honda Elevate ranks high on this list. At 458 litres, the Elevate’s boot is large enough to accommodate your family’s luggage for a weekend getaway. The wide opening and symmetrical shape of the Elevate’s boot make loading items easy, while the sizeable parcel tray tucks away the boot’s contents quite well.

3. Citroen Basalt X

Boot space: 470 litres

Its coupe-SUV styling may not be to everyone’s tastes, but there’s no denying that the Citroen Basalt X offers one of the most voluminous luggage bays in its segment. However, the 470-litre boot’s overall practicality is somewhat hampered by a high loading lip, and the rear wheel arches eat into the width of the floor.

2. Tata Curvv

Boot space: 500 litres

Though similar in its coupe-SUV trappings to the Basalt X, the Tata Curvv ekes out a 30-litre advantage on the boot space front. The Curvv’s 500-litre boot is not only deep but also offers great width and an adequately low floor. This, along with multiple bag hooks, makes carrying grocery bags a breeze, and you even get an electric tailgate in higher variants.

1. Renault Duster

Boot space: 518 litres

The beloved Duster is back in a brand-new avatar, and though it’s yet to go on sale, Renault has revealed the midsize SUV’s key specifications. Among them is the Duster’s boot space, which stands at an impressive 518 litres – the highest in the segment. Considering the 2026 Duster isn’t even the largest car among its rivals, Renault managing to carve out the most voluminous luggage bay is quite the feat.
