What are the Tata Safari petrol engine specs?

1.5L turbocharged unit generates 170hp, 350Nm

Tata Safari petrol engine

Under the hood, the Tata Safari petrol features a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine, producing peak outputs of 170hp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm from 1,750 to 3,500rpm. Six-speed manual and torque-converter automatic gearbox choices are available. For reference, the Harrier diesel gets a 170hp, 350Nm, 2-litre, 4-cylinder unit, with the same gearbox options.

What is the Tata Safari petrol's performance like?

Good low-end torque, linear power delivery

In our experience with the Tata Safari petrol, the new engine delivered surprisingly strong performance even with six on board. Refinement is good as well, with hardly any vibrations across the rev range. The engine's good low-end torque lets the Safari build speed easily, with little to no turbo lag and smooth, linear power delivery. While it lacks the mid-range punch or the top-end kick of some other turbocharged engines, overall performance never feels lacking.

Does the Tata Safari petrol get new features over the diesel SUV?

14.53-inch QLED touchscreen, digital IRVM

Tata Safari petrol interior

The new petrol-only Accomplished Ultra trim gets an oyster white and gold interior theme, a Harrier EV-like 14.53-inch QLED touchscreen, Dolby Atmos surround sound, a digital interior rearview mirror (IRVM) that doubles up as a built-in dash cam, a 65W Type-C charging port, and front and rear camera washers.

Panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS continue to be on offer

Features, such as a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, panoramic sunroof, Boss mode for the front passenger seat, 10-speaker JBL audio system, Level 2 ADAS, and more, have been carried over.

Which SUVs does the Tata Safari petrol rival?

Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar

With the addition of a petrol powertrain, the Safari is better positioned to go against 6/7-seat executive SUVs, including the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus
