Kia Carens Clavis FAQs
In comparison to other MPVs, the Carens is slightly pricier, but is the only one in the segment with diverse powertrains, has the biggest feature list, and is the biggest in terms of dimensions in its class.
The Kia Carens Clavis is a value-for-money car as it's a well-rounded, practical MPV for those who want a family car that is feature-rich.
Questions you may find useful
I am planning to buy a new 7-seater and am confused between the Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti Ertiga, both with naturally aspirated petrol engines. I do not like the new air-conditioning setup in the Ertiga. Could you advise on the Carens Clavis in terms of mileage, reliability, and long-term service costs?
The Kia Carens Clavis is a great 7-seater. It is very spacious, and even tall adults can sit in the last row without any issue. The cabin feels very premium, with high-quality materials used, and even the lower variants offer impressive standard equipment, which makes the entry-level 1.5-litre petrol versions excellent value for money. The 1.5L petrol engine is smooth and refined, and in our tests, it accelerated quickly than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, indicating better drivability too. This engine is shared with the Carens, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Verna, and it has been quite reliable so far. Service and maintenance costs are also on par with, or even lower than, its rivals.
I’m planning to buy either the Kia Carens Clavis or the Hyundai Alcazar. Please advise which one would be better.
Assuming you’re considering these two models because they offer a third row of seats, the Kia Carens Clavis would be the better choice. This Kia car offers easier access to the third row thanks to its electric one-touch tumble function, and space and comfort at the back are superior. Carens Clavis and Hyundai Alcazar share their turbo-petrol and diesel engines, so there isn’t much difference in performance.
I am confused between Kia Carens Clavis and XUV 7XO. We currently have an Elevate and this will be our second car at home. Our total annual running comes to 13-14,000 km and we take 6-7 road trips with 6-7 adults annually (on average). Our running is 80-90% within city. I'm looking for Clavis HTX (O) DCT or the XUV 7XO AX5.
Since you already own a Honda Elevate, the Kia Carens Clavis HTX (O) DCT would make more sense for your second car, particularly because you regularly travel with six or seven adults. The Clavis has a more usable third row, where adults can sit with reasonable comfort, while the Mahindra XUV 7XO’s third row is cramped for adults on longer journeys. The Clavis also has an airy cabin, thanks to its large windows, and a comfortable ride that should make family road trips more relaxing. The turbo petrol engine offers adequate performance, although the DCT can feel jerky in stop and go traffic. Given that 80 to 90 per cent of your driving is in the city, you should experience this gearbox in heavy traffic before deciding. The XUV 7XO is the better choice if performance and driving engagement matter more to you. It is comfortable and spacious in the first two rows, but its third row is better suited to children.
Hi, We are planning to buy a new car/suv which is having 6-7 seats. We travel once every 2-3 months with family, consisting of our parents. The priority is travel comfort and spacious seats, with a good, powerful petrol/diesel engine, comparatively good fuel efficiency and features. ADAS is not a factor we are looking for. Which cars can we check out? Please let me know.
For your requirements, the Kia Carens Clavis would be the first car to consider, especially if comfort and usable space across all three rows are priorities when travelling with your parents. Choose the petrol or diesel based on your annual running. If you do a lot of highway driving, the diesel automatic makes sense, although it is not offered in the higher variants. If you want more performance and are willing to compromise on third-row comfort, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is worth considering. Its turbo petrol and diesel engines offer stronger performance, and it feels more like a traditional SUV, but the third row is not as accommodating as the Carens Clavis for adults on longer journeys. With your parents travelling regularly, test the ease of getting into the second row and the comfort of all seats before deciding.
I am planning to buy my first car. I want to have a 7-seater and need it for long term ownership. I liked the Citroen Aircross X design for 5+2. I am planning to choose a car with automatic transmission. I have couple of major concerns for which I would like your advice. First one is Mileage, I heard Aircross has a mileage issue and its real-world city mileage is 8 kpl while on highway it is 14 kpl. Is it the same for X version also? Second advice is for its service network. I have heard from the people that its service is slow. Regular servicing also takes around 2 days of time. I have a service center within 10 km from my home. My budget is Rs. 20 Lakh and I need an automatic transmission with rear and front parking camera or 360-degree camera since I am a new driver. Are there any 7-seater alternatives within this budget?
The Citroen Aircross X is a good-looking car, now with a premium interior. It is the only SUV in its category which offers a 5+2 seating configuration, and even though the third row is not particularly spacious, it works for occasional use. The real-world fuel efficiency figures as per our tests are 9.5kpl and 13.62kpl in city and highway conditions, respectively, which is quite decent given the strong and smooth performance this 1.2-turbo-petrol-AT delivers. What's more is that ride comfort is outstanding, perhaps the best among all midsize SUVs. So as far as comfort and practicality goes, the Aircross X is a good car.Citroen's service centre network is limited, but since you have a touchpoint close to your home, your vehicle's regular servicing and maintenance is likely to be taken care of smoothly. If you love the Aircross X for what it is, go for it - as far as value goes, it is an outstanding proposition. If you're looking for proper seven-seater alternatives, we'd strongly recommend the Kia Carens Clavis HTK+ turbo-petrol automatic version. All three rows are properly spacious, well-suited for adults. This variant will be within your Rs 20 lakh on-road budget, and it has front and rear parking sensors, as well as rear-view camera to make parking easy for you. Sure, it isn't an SUV, but it is a very sensible car, if you need a proper seven-seater.
