Go for the Skoda Kylaq automatic. Your priorities are clear: low NVH, easy ingress/egress for elderly parents and good ride quality. The Kylaq delivers on all three. The cabin is well insulated, the ride is comfortable, and the ideal seat height makes getting in and out easy. The 6-speed torque converter automatic is also the right choice for your usage. It is smooth and well suited to city driving, unlike the DCT in the Venue, which can feel hesitant in stop-go traffic. The Venue turbo DCT is a good car, but the Kylaq is the more comfortable and easier-to-live-with option. As for waiting, the Vision S and Bridger are expected later next year; the Bayon will be bigger and more expensive, so none are likely to fundamentally change the equation for your requirements.

Go for the Hyundai Venue. It has a five-star Bharat NCAP rating, good features, a quality cabin and good reliability, with a wide-reaching service network and reasonable costs. You also have two petrol engines to choose from a 1.2 naturally aspirated, and a more powerful 1.0 turbocharged, both of which are smooth and efficient. The Mahindra XUV 3XO also offers a strong feature list, 5-star safety rating, good ride comfort and a powerful 1.2 turbo petrol engine. However it is not as fuel efficient as the Venue, and Mahindra's aftersales and service experience isn't as well reputed as Hyundai's. Overall, the Venue is a better all-rounder.Do note, however, that on your Rs. 12 lakh budget, both these SUVs will only be available in their mid-range variants, so you won't get all the features they could have on offer. If you want maximum bang for your buck, check out the Nissan Magnite 1.0 Turbo. It's spacious, reliable, feature loaded, powerful enough and you can even get an auto gearbox in your budget.

Your usage of 700-750 km a month with a 40:60 highway-to-city split does not justify a diesel, especially given your concerns about DPF issues and the fact that your highway runs are only once or twice a month. The Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI turbo petrol paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a proven and reliable combination, and the car’s strong mid-range performance makes overtaking effortless, which you have already experienced on your test drive.Fuel efficiency is not the best and in our real world tests the Kylaq returned 8.7 kpl in the city and 13.6 on the highway when driven normally. Of course a diesel car is more efficient but for your running, the savings will not be very substantial over the life cycle of the car, especially when you factor in the lower purchase price of a petrol over a diesel. The Kylaq also offers a more engaging driving experience than the Venue, with better handling and a more planted feel on the highway.

With your current usage pattern of 30-40 km weekend drives and only occasional long trips, a diesel car is no longer the right choice. The DPF issues you have experienced are a direct result of this kind of low-mileage, short-trip usage, and moving to a petrol car is the right decision.The Hyundai Venue petrol is a natural replacement if you are otherwise happy with the car. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol is smooth, reliable and well suited to your usage, and the car itself is compact, easy to drive and well equipped. The Kia Sonet petrol which is essentially the same car underneath is also a good option and well suited to your usageThe key is to move away from diesel and towards a simple, naturally aspirated petrol engine that will be reliable and easy to live with given your current usage. The Venue petrol, Sonet petrol and the latest Brezza petrol are all excellent petrol cars.

With 12,000-15,000km a year and mostly highway driving, your Venue diesel is already delivering excellent efficiency at 19kpl. The Syros EV will certainly reduce your running costs per kilometre, but the higher upfront cost of the electric car is significant and will take several years to recover through fuel savings alone. On highways, diesel cars remain very efficient, and the Syros diesel is already a proven, reliable package. The Syros EV is expected to embody the same strengths of the ICE model but with some improvements, but the financial case is not compelling enough given your usage pattern. Moreover, EVs are better suited to city use, and on long highway journeys, you could be dependent on the public charging network, which is not always reliable or even available. Moreover, while the Syros EV is expected to be efficient, its relatively modest 51kWh battery is likely to give a real-world range of less than 450km. Unless you have a strong desire to move to an EV for other reasons, we would recommend you stick with a diesel model for now. It is still the more sensible ownership decision in your case.
