•3wHi, I am planning to purchase a new car within a budget of ₹50-60 lakh. I really like the Audi A4, but I am concerned about its ground clearance of around 165 mm, which may be slightly low for Indian road conditions. I have also looked at the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine. Could you suggest other cars in this price range that I should consider? I am mainly looking for a good value-for-money luxury car with strong features and overall ownership value.

Autocar India
All the cars you have shortlisted, being sedans, have similar ground clearance, and for all practical purposes, the Audi A4 is no worse off than the other two. In fact, in our testing, it was the Mercedes-Benz A-Class limousine that required the most care over speed breakers. If ground clearance is a high priority, consider an SUV like the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 or BMW X1. However, if you want to stick with a sedan, the Audi A4 is the most value for money. Not only is it larger and more spacious than the others, it also has the most comfortable suspension. What's more, its 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol is larger and more powerful than the engines on offer in the 2 Series and A-Class, and the most refined among them too. Given your budget, however, you could even consider an Audi A6; check if your local Audi dealer is offering any discounts, and it could fit within the outer limits of your budget.

•7wI am confused between the BMW 320d and the Audi A6. Please help me choose one. My monthly commute will be 500-800 km.

Autocar India
The BMW 320d is a sporty sedan with a strong diesel engine and more engaging driving dynamics, but it sits in a segment below the Audi A6. The A6’s 2.0‑litre petrol engine is much smoother and more refined than the BMW’s diesel, which can feel a bit gruff in comparison. With your usage of just 500 to 800 km a month, a diesel really isn’t necessary, and you won’t fully benefit from its efficiency advantage.Where the BMW does score is in the cabin, which looks and feels more modern than the A6’s interior, which is now beginning to feel a bit dated. However, overall, the Audi A6 offers a more luxurious experience, a more refined powertrain and, with the attractive deals currently available in the market, becomes the better all-round choice despite not being as sporty to drive as the 320d.

•12wI currently own a 2016 Hyundai Elantra SX MT, along with a 2018 Toyota Fortuner and a 2023 Tata Nexon EV. I am planning to upgrade my Elantra to a luxury sedan within a budget of ₹90 lakh. My usage is primarily in the city, but I also frequently travel to rural Maharashtra, where road conditions can be quite poor. Due to chronic back pain, I need a car with exceptional ride comfort and suspension. I have considered the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but since I enjoy driving myself, I have also looked at BMW options. However, I am concerned that BMW may not offer the same level of comfort. Could you please advise which luxury sedan would be the best choice for my needs?

Autocar India
Both the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series are large, long-wheelbase sedans that are best enjoyed from the back seat. That being said, both are quite enjoyable from the driver's seat too and come with powerful engines, well-tuned chassis and nicely calibrated steering setups. There are subtle differences - the BMW is more powerful and has a comfier ride, while the Mercedes has sharper steering and gives you the option of a diesel engine. However, both cars are pushing Rs 90 lakh with their on-road prices, but another thing to keep in mind is their large size and long wheelbase, which need to be handled with care over speed bumps or over bad roads, such as the ones you will encounter. The E-Class is the better car of these two overall, but you should also check out the Audi A6, which not only has a more manageable wheelbase with better ground clearance, but it's also more affordable. Plus, it's incredibly comfortable as well as enjoyable to drive.

•15wMy friend is looking for a fun-to-drive luxury car around 70 lakh. The car will always be self-driven, and he has a family of 4. His choices are BMW 330Li, Mercedes-Benz C300 and Audi A6. He found 330Li more engaging. Not considering the M340i due to the practicality of highway driving. Please advise.

Autocar India
Yes, the BMW 3 Series LWB is a good choice, as it mixes driving excitement with rear-seat comfort in good measure. The 330Li in particular has a punchy engine that is silky smooth and fun to rev. The Audi A6 does have the advantage of feeling a bit larger than the BMW, as it is technically from a segment above, and its higher ground clearance gives it more practicality too. However, while its 265hp engine is powerful, it is not as engaging as the BMW's.But, if the added cost is not an issue, the BMW M340i is actually the best choice. Yes, ground clearance isn't as good as the 330Li, but then it has a shorter wheelbase as well, which makes it more manageable. With a little care, it can be driven on highways with minimal issues, so if your heart is set on it, go for it.
