Volkswagen has begun taking official pre-bookings for the Tayron 3-row SUV ahead of its price announcement later this month. The pre-bookings can be made online or at any Volkswagen dealership for Rs 51,000. The Tayron will be the brand’s new flagship offering in India, and it will be assembled locally from CKD kits.

  1. Tayron is powered by a 204hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
  2. Comes in sporty-looking R-Line trim as standard
  3. Will rival the likes of Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian

Volkswagen Tayron: What to expect?

To briefly recap, the Tayron is a larger 7-seater version of the Tiguan R-Line launched in India last year. However, unlike the latter, which comes to India as a full import, the Tayron will be assembled here.

Standard equipment will include Matrix LED headlamps, 19-inch alloys, illuminated front and rear VW logos, a large 15-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 3-zone climate control, powered front seats with memory, heating, ventilation and massage functions, a head-up display, ambient lighting and a powered tailgate.

Customers will have seven colour options to choose from, namely Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Ultraviolet Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic and Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl Effect.

The Tayron will get the same engine option as the Tiguan, which means it’s a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit producing 204hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, with all-wheel drive as standard fitment. Volkswagen claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 224kph.

The Tayron will rival its platform sibling, the Skoda Kodiaq, as well as the Jeep Meridian and Toyota Fortuner
