Toyota will launch the Rumion MPV by the end of August 2023 and open bookings prior to that. Dealer sources tell us that deliveries of the Rumion will begin late September. The MPV is also sold in markets like South Africa in similar spec.

    1. Rumion gets minor cosmetic updates over Ertiga
    2. Expected to Rs 25,000-50,000 over the Maruti
    3. Will rival the Ertiga, XL6 and Carens

Based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Rumion is the fourth badge-engineered model between the two manufacturers, and will be built and supplied by Maruti Suzuki. With the Rumion, Toyota has the widest MPV portfolio in the country, which includes the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and the Vellfire.

    Toyota Rumion exterior and interior

Like the Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza, the Rumion will also have slightly different styling than the Ertiga. The Rumion gets an all-new bumper with a revised fog lamp housing, an Innova Crysta-like grille and new dual-tone alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Rumion also shares its features list with the Ertiga: a 7-seat configuration, 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Arkamys sound system and automatic climate control. In terms of safety, it gets four airbags, ABD with EBD, electronic stability program and seat belt reminders for all seats.

    Toyota Rumion powertrain

The Rumion is powered by the same 103hp, 137Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine as the Ertiga and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It also gets a factory-fitted CNG kit and produces 88hp and 121.5Nm in CNG mode and 101hp and 136Nm in petrol mode. Toyota claims the Rumion petrol has a fuel efficiency of up to 20.51kpl, while the CNG returns 26.11km/kg.

    Toyota Rumion rivals

When launched, the Rumion will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Rs 8.64 lakh-13.08 lakh), Maruti Suzuki XL6 (Rs 11.56 lakh-14.66 lakh) and Kia Carens (Rs 10.45 lakh-18.90 lakh). Expect the Rumion to be priced at a premium of Rs 25,000-50,000.
