The all-new Toyota Innova Hycross is slated to see a global debut sometime next month and go on sale early next year. Now, fresh spy shots have surfaced online giving us a detailed view of the new three-row MPV.

The Innova Hycross will be a global model that will be sold in overseas markets like Indonesia, and most likely be called the “Innova Zenix”. The Indian debut of the Innova Hycross – which will become Toyota’s second hybrid vehicle to be unveiled here this year – will follow the global unveiling of the Innova Zenix, which is expected to take place in Indonesia.

    • Innova Hycross to come with two engine options
    • Higher variants expected to get strong hybrid powertrain
    • Expected to be feature-laden

Toyota Innova Hycross: what do the new spy shots reveal?

The latest set of spy shots is probably the best one yet of the upcoming Innova Hycross as it shows almost the entire car from every angle. While parts of the exterior of the new Innova Hycross have been spotted earlier, these pictures also give us a glimpse of the MPV’s all-new interior.

The spy shots also confirm the presence of an all-new free-standing touchscreen system, which is unlike anything offered on any Toyota product in India. It also looks completely different to what’s offered on the Toyota Hyryder SUV.

The new Innova will be around 4.7 metres long and have a 2,850mm wheelbase, which is slightly longer than the Innova Crysta. It will continue to feature multiple seating options and a spacious cabin, which has always been a key selling point for the MPV. The front and rear doors also seem to be as big as the Innova Crysta's.

As far as the exterior goes, the new Innova Hycross gets horizontally positioned tail-lamps with LED brake lights, but it continues with halogen turn signals. The model seen in these spy shots seems to be the top model as it also features large alloy wheels, which are similar in design to some upmarket Toyota models. There are quite a few styling cues from other Toyota models like the Avanza and the Corolla Cross that have been incorporated into the Innova Hycross.

Toyota Innova Hycross: expected features and tech

Unlike the Innova Crysta, the upcoming Innova Hycross will get a much longer feature list. A fully digital instrument cluster in higher variants, a 360-degree camera, a sunroof, multiple USB outlets and wireless charging are expected, and, as mentioned earlier, a large touchscreen system will also be available. Additionally, it could also feature a soft touch dashboard, have an electronic parking brake on higher variants and LED headlamps. The second row of the new Innova Hycross is also likely to get an “ottoman function” for the captain chairs.

A large free-standing touchscreen can clearly be seen in this spy shot.

Toyota Innova Hycross: first monocoque, FWD Innova

The new Innova Hycross will be the first Innova to ditch the ladder-frame architecture for a much lighter and more advanced monocoque set-up. It will also come with a front-wheel drive layout instead of a rear-wheel drive set-up that is seen in the Innova Crysta and the versions before that. The new MPV will also get a flat floor at the rear, thanks to the monocoque architecture, which will liberate more space. The Innova Hycross will be underpinned by Toyota’s modular TNGA-C platform that also forms the base for the current-gen Corolla.

Toyota Innova Hycross: two engine options likely, no diesel

As we've reported before, the Toyota Innova Hycross will ditch the diesel engine and only come with a petrol-hybrid configuration, similar to the Toyota Hyryder. However, the engine that will see duty on the Innova Hycross will be a bigger 2.0-litre unit, instead of the 1.5-litre engine seen on the latter. The hybrid tech will be the same heavily localised one that is already seen on the Hyryder, to help keep costs in check.

Toyota Innova Hycross: India launch timeline

The new Innova Hycross will debut next month, but a price announcement is expected to take place early next year, with deliveries commencing thereafter. The Innova Crysta, which is currently on sale only with a petrol engine, is expected to soldier on alongside the Hycross.
