The BS6-compliant Renault Kwid has been launched at Rs 2.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Due to the update, Renault has hiked prices for all the variants available on the entry-level hatchback by Rs 9,000. Below is a variant-wise break-up of the BS6 Kwid’s prices:
Powering the hatchback are the same petrol engines as before, though now updated to comply with the more stringent emission norms. The output figures for both engines remain unchanged – the 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine continues to produce 54hp and 72Nm of torque, while the larger 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit makes the same 68hp and 91Nm of torque as its BS4 counterpart.
In terms of gearbox options, the 1.0-litre engine is available with both, a 5-speed AMT automatic unit and a 5-speed manual. The 0.8-litre petrol engine, however, is only available with the latter.
No changes have been made to either the design of the hatchback or the equipment list. Renault offers a driver airbag, ABS, EBD, rear sensors, seatbelt reminder and a speed-alert system as standard. The top-spec Kwid continues to get 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, rear parking camera, a rear seat armrest and more.
The Renault Kwid competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Alto K10, the Datsun Redigo and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. Off these competitors, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (priced from Rs 3.71-4.99 lakh) and Alto (priced from Rs 2.95-4.17 lakh) already come with BS6-compliant engines.
