The new-gen Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic+ and the even more performance-focused AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ are set to launch in India on June 27. Mercedes India announced in January that it would launch a total of 8 models in 2025, and the debut of these performance models will mark the company’s 4th and 5th launches, respectively, after the G Class electricEQS SUV 450, and the Maybach SL 680. The launch will also mark the return of AMG's flagship to India after a 5-year period, following the discontinuation of the first-gen model in 2020.

  1. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 gets 585hp, 800Nm V8
  2. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro gets 612hp, 850Nm V8
  3. Both models are likely to be priced above Rs 3 crore, ex-showroom

Second-gen AMG GT 63 is larger, more practical and more powerful than the first-gen model

The second-gen AMG GT was revealed in August 2023 – Mercedes usually brings new cars to India in a quicker time frame – and it came with a raft of changes over the first-gen model to make it more practical. It’s larger than its predecessor – 182mm longer, 45mm wider and 66mm taller, with a wheelbase that is 70mm longer – and comes with a 2+2 seating layout, unlike the first-gen model, which was a strict 2-seater. Other than tweaks to improve aerodynamic efficiency and new light units, the new AMG GT’s styling draws heavily on the first-generation model.

Mercedes-AMG says that, along with more space for occupants, boot space has also increased significantly. The interior will be familiar to anyone who has spent time in the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 – from the AMG-spec steering wheel and sculptured front sport seats with integrated headrests to the 12.3-inch instrument panel and 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 V8 engine

The new GT 63 is powered by the ubiquitous 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which makes 585hp and 800Nm of torque (the most hardcore first-gen GT R had it in a 585hp and 700Nm state of tune), and comes paired with a new 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that transmits power to all four wheels via the brand’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of 3.2 seconds and a 315kph top speed.

Gets a more powerful engine, aero upgrades and performance parts

As mentioned above, the Pro is the more hardcore version of the AMG GT 63 and gets an uprated version of the same V8 engine – it now makes 612hp and 850Nm of torque, an increase of 27hp and 50Nm. While the claimed 0-100kph time is the same as the GT 63, the Pro manages the 0-200kph run in 10.9 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds quicker. The top speed is also slightly higher at 317kph.

Other differences include enhanced engine cooling, better aerodynamics (front lift is said to have reduced by 30kg, while rear downforce has increased by 15kg over the GT 63), bigger brakes, light-weight wheels, and better tyres.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 front tracking

We expect the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic+ to be priced north of Rs 3 crore, while the GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ will be priced even higher. The closest rival to the GT 63 will be the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS, which is currently priced at Rs 2.84 crore.

All prices, ex-showroom, India, before options.
