MG Motor India has opened bookings for the Comet for a token amount of Rs 11,000. The full price list for the electric urban runabout was announced earlier this month, ranging from Rs 7.78 lakh-9.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries for the Comet will begin in a phased manner this month.

    1. MG Comet EV gets a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty
    2. Its 17.3kWh battery gets an 8-year/1.2 lakh km warranty

The MG Comet also comes with a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty and its IP67-rated battery gets an 8-year/1.2 lakh km warranty. Furthermore, MG will also provide three years of roadside assistance and three free services as standard. All of this is part of MG e-Shield service. Additionally, MG also announced that there are more than 80 packages for warranty and service that start at Rs 5,000.

    MG Comet powertrain and battery

The Comet is equipped with a 17.3kWh battery, sourced from Tata Autocomp, and has an ARAI-certified range of 230km. The battery can be fully charged in seven hours using the onboard 3.3kW charger provided by MG. However, it doesn’t get DC fast charging support. The single electric motor on the front axle produces 42hp and 110Nm of torque. MG claims the Comet has a running cost of Rs 519 per month.

Up front, the Comet gets a full-width LED light bar along with a chrome strip connecting the two wing mirrors. Another interesting element of the Comet is the vertical window for the rear passengers, with the rear also getting a full-width light bar. Its 12-inch wheels are the smallest wheel size available on any vehicle sold in the market currently.

MG has placed the charging port of the Comet under the front light bar, with an illuminated MG logo on the flap. The Comet is available in five colours with multiple graphics packages categorised under sticker styles and lit packages.

    MG Comet interior and features

Apart from the base Pace trim, the Comet gets a dual-tone white and grey interior. Front and centre are two 10.25-inch displays with one for the digital instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system. The Comet also features a rotary drive selector between the two front seats.

In terms of features, the Comet gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, manual AC controls, keyless entry and more. Safety features include ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera and sensors as well as dual front airbags.

    MG Comet rivals

The MG Comet sits in a niche segment of its own: a two-door urban commuter. However, as an entry-level hatchback, the Comet rivals the Tata Tiago EV (Rs 8.69 lakh-12.04 lakh) and Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.50 lakh-12.04 lakh).
