Maruti Suzuki Celerio records annual sales of over 1 lakh units

Maruti Suzuki has announced that its budget hatchback, the Celerio, has achieved sales figures of 1 lakh units in a single year for the first time. The company said that sales for the Celerio stood at 1,03,734 units in FY 2018-19, a near 10 percent jump year-on-year.

The carmaker said that over 52 percent of the Celerio units it sold were of the top ZXi trim, while 31 percent of customers opted for the AMT gearbox-equipped variants. Maruti said that 20 percent of the total sales amounted for the CNG model.

Speaking on the occasion R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We are delighted that this glorious benchmark has been achieved by Celerio. With evolved design, technology and ease of driving, the Celerio has successfully won hearts of many Indian customers. It was the first car to democratise two-pedal technology and the recent upgrade in its safety features has significantly enhanced its appeal as the perfect city car. Based on customer feedback, we have continuously provided new contemporary features in Celerio to keep them delighted.”

Maruti Suzuki launched the Celerio back in 2014, with the model receiving a facelift and a crossover-inspired sibling – the Celerio X – in 2017; cumulative sales are presently around 4.7 lakh units. Maruti recently updated the hatchback and the crossover with more safety kit, to conform to the new regulations that have started to come into effect since April 1.
