Toyota has just confirmed a new battery electric vehicle which will be supplied by Suzuki as part of the global alliance between the two Japanese manufacturers. This upcoming electric SUV has previously been previewed by the Urban SUV concept and is essentially Toyota’s version of the Maruti eVX. Toyota has also confirmed that the new model is scheduled to be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat from the spring (March to May) of 2025.

  1. Toyota’s version of the eVX will be based on the Urban SUV concept
  2. Production and debut slated for 2025
  3. Will come with 400km-plus range, AWD tech

Maruti eVX-based Toyota EV: what to expect

The upcoming model will be the first shared BEV (battery electric vehicle) between the two brands, which will be exported to markets worldwide, besides being sold domestically. It will be based on the 27PL electric skateboard architecture which has been jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu.

Toyota hasn’t divulged many technical details yet but has confirmed that it will be available with a 4WD system option. And going by the eVX, the production version of the Urban SUV concept could be offered with two battery pack options, with the higher-spec variant offering a 400km-plus range.

Toyota midsize electric SUV: dimensions, design

At its preview, Toyota had revealed that the Urban SUV concept measures 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,620mm in height, which is quite similar to the Maruti eVX – the latter has the same length but is 20mm shorter in height and width. Both models are also expected to share the same 2,700mm wheelbase.

The commonality between the two models will not be limited to the platform or mechanicals but will likely include exterior body panels and interior trims. The Toyota, however, will likely have styling inspired by its bZ Series of EVs. It will have a typical upright SUV silhouette with a rugged appeal, edgy surfaces and C-shaped LED lighting elements.

The launch of the production version of the Urban SUV concept is expected to follow the eVX. The latter will go on sale by the first quarter of 2025, which means that the Toyota can be expected by mid-2025.
