Mahindra XUV 3XO EV launched

Mahindra has taken the wraps off its newest electric car, the XUV 3XO EV, expanding its eSUV portfolio to four models. The XUV 3XO EV is available in two variants: the AX5, priced at Rs 13.89 lakh, and the AX7L, priced at Rs 14.96 lakh (ex-showroom); a 7.2kW AC charger costs an additional Rs 50,000. Deliveries for the XUV 3XO EV are scheduled to begin on February 23.

The XUV 3XO EV is based on the ICE-powered XUV 3XO compact SUV, borrowing the battery and electric motor from the erstwhile XUV400. It effectively replaces the Mahindra XUV400 and is positioned to directly take on the Tata Nexon EV

  1. Mahindra says the XUV 3XO EV will have a real-world range of 285km
  2. XUV 3XO EV comes with a 39.4kWh battery and two trim options
  3. Its exterior and interior are largely identical to ICE-powered XUV 3XO

Mahindra XUV 3XO battery, powertrain and range details

The XUV 3XO EV comes with only a 39.4kWh battery pack that powers a front electric motor producing 150hp and 310Nm of peak torque – the figures are unchanged from the XUV400. Mahindra hasn’t stated the ARAI-rated range figure yet but says that the compact electric SUV will go 285km on a single charge in real-world conditions. The XUV 3XO EV has a claimed 0-100kph sprint time of 8.3 seconds and comes with three drive modes: fun, fast and fearless. Mahindra claims the battery can be topped up from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes using a 50kW DC charger.

New Mahindra XUV 3XO EV launched at Rs 13.89 lakh

Interestingly, being a direct conversion of an ICE-powered model, the XUV 3XO EV is actually smaller than the erstwhile XUV400, which was 4.2 metres long. The XUV 3XO EV will just be under 4 metres, so naturally, boot space will be less than the XUV400’s 378 litres. The XUV 3XO EV is also currently Mahindra’s only ICE-adapted EV; the XEV 9e, XEV 9S and BE 6 are all born-electric SUVs.

Visually, the XUV 3XO EV is identical to the ICE-powered model, specifically the RevX variants. It gets the same body-coloured treatment for the grille, but there’s a slightly different detailing for the front bumper. The rest of the body panels, including the alloy wheels and lighting signatures, are identical to its ICE-powered counterpart. It’s a similar story on the inside, with the dashboard design being carried over. However, the EV is marked out by bronze highlights on the centre console and around the AC vents. The twin peaks logo on the steering wheel also gets a bronze finish.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV features

Carrying over all the features from the XUV 3XO, the compact electric SUV gets two 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with on-board navigation, all-LED lighting, dual-zone climate control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, auto headlamps and wipers, wireless charger, 6 airbags, ESP and cruise control. The top trim also gets a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, a 7-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, 17-inch alloy wheels and an ADAS suite.

Mahindra XUV 3XO rivals

The XUV 3XO EV will be a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV, which is currently priced between Rs 12.45 lakh and Rs 17.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The latter gets two battery pack options (30kWh and 45kWh) and an ARAI-rated range of up to 465km.
