Mahindra XEV 9S interior

After showing us snippets of the exterior design of the upcoming XEV 9S, Mahindra has dropped a new teaser, this time offering us a glimpse of the SUV’s interior. Unsurprisingly, the Mahindra XEV 9S will share a lot of its interior with its coupe sibling, the XEV 9e. This means the dashboard-wide screen setup continues, but the key differentiator here will be the seating configuration.

  1. Mahindra XEV 9S to get a triple-screen setup just like the XEV 9e
  2. XEV 9S will come with a 3-row setup with 7 seats
  3. Panoramic sunroof and sliding middle-row seat confirmed

Mahindra XEV 9S interior details

The XEV 9S is essentially a proper SUV counterpart to the coupe-styled XEV 9e, so the dashboard design, with triple screens, centre console and 2-spoke steering with an illuminated logo, largely remains unchanged here. From our experience with the XEV 9e, we also expect all surfaces to be finished in good-quality materials.

What’s new here is, of course, a 3-row layout with seven seats as opposed to the XEV 9e’s 5-seat configuration. Mahindra has also confirmed a sliding function for the middle-row seat, and the teaser video hints at a boss-mode function, which should allow the front passenger seat to be adjusted for some extra legroom in the second row.

Mahindra’s triple-screen setup, with all its packed features and gimmicks, certainly has the wow factor, but in operation, the over-reliance on the screens has felt a bit of an overkill on the XEV 9e. Some physical switchgear for basic functions would have been a welcome addition here. It is, however, expected to score well in terms of storage and space on offer.

Mahindra XEV 9S: What else do we know?

Visually, the XEV 9S is expected to be an evolution of the XUV.e8 concept Mahindra unveiled a few years ago. In essence, apart from a redesigned roofline and a tailgate, the XEV 9S will have the same design language as the XEV 9e.

Mahindra has yet to confirm the battery packs on offer with the XEV 9S, but it’s likely to have the same 59kWh and 79kWh units as the XEV 9e. The 231hp/380Nm rear-axle electric motor is also expected to be carried over, although it remains to be seen whether Mahindra will offer a motor on the front axle for an AWD setup to take the competition up to the Tata Harrier EV

Set to launch on November 27, the XEV 9S will be the first 7-seat mass-market electric SUV in India, so it won’t have a direct rival. The other 3-row EVs currently are MPVs.
