Shortly after Mahindra confirmed the launch of its next EV for 2027, a heavily camouflaged test mule of a Mahindra electric SUV has now been spotted testing on our roads. We suspect this to be a production version of the BE.07 concept – the second model under Mahindra’s BE sub-brand and the brand’s fourth born-electric model after the XEV 9e, XEV 9S and BE 6. Let’s take a closer look at what the spy shots reveal about the production-spec SUV.
- BE.07 will be larger than BE 6, measuring about 4.6 metres in length
- Will share the INGLO born-electric platform with existing XEV and BE EVs
- Expected to rival the likes of Tata Harrier EV and Vinfast VF7
Mahindra BE.07: What do the spy images reveal?
The design of the glasshouse, with sharply raked front and rear windscreens and a thick C-pillar, is the biggest giveaway of this being a BE.07 prototype. However, some of the edgy details seen on the original concept seem to have been toned down for the production model. For instance, the front bumper continues with a stepped design, but the lighting elements appear slightly different on the production model. Moreover, the cameras on the concept have made way for traditional wing mirrors.
Elsewhere, we can spot air inlets for cooling on the front bumper, large aero-optimised wheels, flush door handles and a side step, too. We didn’t get a look at the rear or the interior of the prototype, but expect some tweaks from the concept in those areas as well. The interior could carry over the dashboard-spanning triple-screen layout seen on the XEV 9S and XEV 9e, as previewed by the original BE.07 concept.
Mahindra BE.07 technical details
Even though this prototype appears considerably larger than the BE 6, it will be a 5-seater model with a more traditional SUV body style. The concept measured 4,565mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,660mm in height, but it had the same 2,775mm wheelbase as the BE 6 and XEV 9e. The existing battery options will also likely be carried over, which means they will range between 59kWh and 79kWh.
The production model will likely bear a different name when it launches in 2027, and it could be positioned directly against models such as the Tata Harrier EV and Vinfast VF7.
In a recent Mahindra and Mahindra quarterly earnings call, the company’s executive director and CEO, Rajesh Jejurikar, hinted at its volume expectation, saying, “We believe the BE.07 will be a very big volume driver on top of what we are doing with our current three products.”
