Hyundai has teased the upcoming fully electric version of the Casper ahead of its global debut at the Busan motor show in South Korea later this month.

  1. Inster will be Hyundai's entry-level EV for now
  2. To offer 315km range; other specs yet to be announced
  3. Will have a longer wheelbase than the Casper

Hyundai Inster: what does the teaser show

Touted as an EV alternative to the popular Casper, the Inster seems to get a longer wheelbase and some design differences over the Casper, However, there are some design cues that mimic the latter. The Inster also gets the new Pixel lighting setup that is seen on the Ioniq 5 in India, and in newer EVs from the Korean brand globally.

On the Inster, the round headlamp setup from the Casper will be retained with some tweaks and circular LED DRLs. The teaser also reveals its fully digital driver's display and a few other design bits. While Hyundai is yet to reveal the specifications of the EV powertrain, it has confirmed that the Inster will offer a claimed 315km range. For reference, the Tata Tiago EV in India offers a similar ARAI-certified range.

Hyundai Inster global launch timeline

The Inster will be shown to the public for the first time at the Busan International Motor Show 2024 in Korea, which will be held between June 27 and July 7. The electric SUV is expected to launch in Hyundai’s home country first, followed by Europe.

Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric coming to India?

That’s a million-dollar question to which the answer is not yet known. What is known is that Hyundai will begin production of its first locally produced EV – the Creta EV – at the end of 2024 at its Chennai plant. By 2030, there are plans to produce five more EVs in India.

These six battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from Hyundai Motor India will span different segments and body styles. They will be designed to cater to different segments like the mass market and mass premium market, and will include an SUV, sedan and CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle).
