Mahindra has upgraded the diesel XUV300 compact SUV to comply with the upcoming BS6 emission norms. For now, the XUV300 BS6 diesel is priced the same as the outgoing BS4 model. Prices start at Rs 8.69 lakh and go up to Rs 12.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

As per details revealed by the company last year, the BS6-compliant diesel engine sees a slight drop in horsepower to 115hp, as against 117hp in BS4-spec. The torque output, meanwhile, remains the same, at 300Nm. The 6-speed manual and AMT gearbox options also carry forward unchanged.

There are currently no details on any changes to the equipment list with the update, though buyers can expect the BS6 model to pack in all the kit available on the outgoing BS4 diesel model.

Mahindra had upgraded the petrol XUV300 to meet BS6 emission norms in December last year, which means that now, with the diesel update, the entire XUV300 range meets the stricter emission norms.

At the 2020 Auto Expo in February, the carmaker showcased a more powerful iteration of the XUV300 – the XUV300 Sportz – featuring the carmaker’s new gasoline direct injection-equipped 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the carmaker’s mStallion family of engines. The new unit makes 130hp and 230Nm of torque – up 20hp and 30Nm over the current turbo-petrol engine – and will go on sale alongside the current BS6 turbo-petrol engine sometime next month.

The XUV300 sits on the higher end of the sub-four-metre SUV segment in terms of pricing and rivals the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Hyundai Venue, the Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport.
