2021 MG ZS EV launched at Rs 20.99 lakh

The updated ZS EV gets a new 44.5kWh battery pack and a claimed range of 419km per charge; ground clearance raised to 177mm; no cosmetic updates over 2020 model.

The 2021 MG ZS EV has been introduced, with prices starting at Rs 20.99 lakh and going up to  Rs 24.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2021 model gets updates under the skin with no changes to the cosmetics or equipment list.

2021 MG ZS EV: What is new?

For the 2021 model year MG ZS EV, the carmaker has made majority of changes under the skin. The biggest change is the new 44.5kWh ‘Hi-tech’ battery pack which MG says increased the ZS EV’s range to a claimed 419km (iCAT) – up from the 340km (ARAI) offered by the older 44.5kWh pack in the 2020 model. The carmaker says that one could expect real world range of 300-400km on a single charge “in most conditions”. There is no change to the electric motor’s output which continues to develop 143hp and 353Nm.

MG has also increased the ZS EV’s ground clearance to 177mm – up 16mm – with the battery pack’s placement also revised to make it sit 205mm off the ground. Also changed on the 2021 ZS EV are the tyre aspect ratio – 215/55 R17s as against 215/50 R17 – though the alloy wheels remain unchanged.

2021 MG ZS EV: Equipment and warranty

Coming to the equipment, the only notable addition to the equipment list is the introduction of a new Ecotree Challenge feature on the MG i-Smart EV 2.0 connected car system. The feature allows owners to track their CO2 emissions and compare it with other owners.

As before the ZS EV continues to be offered with a MG e-shield package offering 5-year unlimited km warranty, 5 labour free services, 5 years road side assistance and 5 way charging infrastructure (DC fast charging, on-board charging cable, home/office charger, mobile charging service and extended charging network). The battery pack comes with an 8-year, 1.5 lakh km warranty.

2021 MG ZS EV: New locations

MG has also announced that the 2021 ZS EV will be available in 31 cities across India. The carmaker has been slowly expanding the model’s availability across new cities last year with the ZS EV previously available across 21 cities by end-2020. The new cities include - Goa, Calicut, Bhubaneshwar, Ranchi, Mysore, Trivandrum, Mangalore, Vijaywada, Puducherry and  Kolhapur.
