Maruti Suzuki has upped the safety quotient of its Tour S compact sedan with the introduction of a driver’s side airbag, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, a speed alert system and a seatbelt reminder system as standard across all variants. The Tour S is based on the second-generation Dzire and is a popular choice among fleet operators in our country.
The manufacturer has updated the Tour S in order to comply with the new safety norms in India. As per the norms, all vehicles manufactured post April 1, 2019 have to be fitted with ABS while a driver airbag, reverse parking sensors, a speed alert system and a seatbelt reminder system will become mandatory from July 1, 2019 onwards.
Depending on the variant, prices for the updated Tour will range from Rs 5.60 lakh to Rs 6.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Maruti upgrading the Tour S to meet these requirements emphasises the demand the compact sedan still has among cab fleet operators.
Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki is yet to update the current-gen Dzire to comply with the upcoming safety norms. The third-generation Dzire does get dual airbags and ABD with EBD on all variants but, for now, misses out on rear parking sensors, a speed alert system and a seatbelt reminder system as standard. We can only assume that the manufacturer will update the Dzire soon.
In terms of engines, the Tour S is continued to be powered by a 75hp, 1.3-litre turbo-diesel and 83hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The petrol engine can also be had in a CNG-powered variant, where it produces 70hp. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
