It’s safe to say that the Hyundai Venue has gotten off to a strong start, with the compact SUV garnering over 50,000 bookings within two months of its launch. The Tata Nexon rival is available with three engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine.

However at the launch of the new Grand i10 Nios, Hyundai confirmed that the existing 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines in its line-up will not be carried forward after the BS6 deadline in April 2020. Instead, Hyundai will make use of a new 1.5-litre diesel engine which will make its India debut in the Kia Seltos SUV.

The 1.5-litre diesel motor will be BS6-compliant and available in two guises – either with or without a variable geometry turbo (VGT). The 1.5-litre VGT will put out 115hp and 250Nm of torque while the standard 1.5-litre engine is expected to put out around 90hp and 220Nm of torque. Essentially, the 1.5 without VGT replaces the 1.4-litre engine while the 1.5 with VGT will replace the 1.6-litre motor in Hyundai’s diesel engine line-up.

The Venue will make use of the non-VGT engine, which will be shared with the next-gen i20 hatchback and with lower variants of the Verna and Creta.

For now though, the Venue diesel will be continued to be offered with the 90hp, 1.4-litre engine that’s paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox only. Expect Hyundai to launch the Venue 1.5 diesel close to the BS6 deadline in April 2020.
