Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650
The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is a premium cruiser motorcycle built around the brand's 648cc parallel-twin engine. It is available in three variants, Astral, Interstellar and Celestial, all using the same 648cc air-oil-cooled engine with a 6-speed gearbox. The bike gets a low 740mm seat height, a 15.7-litre fuel tank, USD front forks, twin rear shocks and alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. It also gets an LED headlamp, a digi-analog instrument cluster with Tripper navigation, adjustable levers and dual-channel ABS.
Autocar India's review highlights the Super Meteor 650's relaxed riding position, strong parallel-twin engine and stable highway manners. The 47 HP engine delivers strong low-end performance and a healthy mid-range, while fuelling remains smooth and refined. The bike's 241kg kerb weight is noticeable at low speeds but becomes less of an issue once moving. Our review also points out that the rear suspension is firm, particularly on broken roads, while the standard seat and windscreen could offer more comfort for long-distance touring.
Who should buy the Super Meteor 650?
The Super Meteor 650 is mainly aimed at riders who want a relaxed, premium motorcycle for highway cruising and long-distance touring rather than an agile city bike.
Buyer type | Why it fits |
Highway Cruiser | Our review found its highway manners to be one of its strengths because of its 47 HP, while the long 1,500mm wheelbase and relaxed riding position make the Super Meteor 650 stable at highway speeds. |
Long-Distance Rider | The low-set riding position, 15.7-litre fuel tank and strong mid-range engine make the Super Meteor 650 suited to covering long distances. |
Performance Buyer | The 648cc twin produces 47 HP and 52.3Nm, with strong bottom-end performance followed by a healthy mid-range surge. The 6-speed gearbox also gives the engine a wide spread of ratios for relaxed cruising. |
Cruiser Buyer | The feet-forward riding position, low 740mm seat, wide handlebar and teardrop-shaped tank give the Super Meteor 650 the relaxed riding position expected from a large cruiser. |
Feature Buyer | The Super Meteor 650 gets an LED headlamp, Tripper navigation, digi-analog instrumentation, adjustable levers, USD front forks, alloy wheels and dual-channel ABS. |
Premium Bike Buyer | The Super Meteor 650 combines a large parallel-twin engine with a premium finish, aluminium switchgear, USD forks and a distinctive cruiser design, making it suited to buyers looking for a more upmarket motorcycle experience. |
The Super Meteor 650 is less suited to buyers who want a light, easy-to-manoeuvre motorcycle for congested city riding or a plush ride over broken roads. Its 241kg kerb weight is noticeable at low speeds, while Autocar India's review specifically points to the firm rear suspension as a drawback.

9.0
The Super Meteor 650 follows a traditional cruiser design with a round headlight, swept-back handlebars and a teardrop-shaped fuel tank flowing into a scooped-out seat. The exhaust pipes are neatly tucked in and exit straight, while body panels fit together with tight gaps. The paint finish and aluminium switch cubes look and feel special, thanks to the materials and finishing.
7.0
The riding position is relaxed, with feet stretched out in front and a slight reach to the handlebars. Despite the cruiser layout, there is no excessive pressure on the tailbone, and the overall posture feels unstrained. The touring seat is noticeably more comfortable than the standard unit and remains supportive over long hours.
8.0
The 648cc parallel-twin delivers strong bottom-end performance, followed by a healthy mid-range surge and continued drive towards the top end. Fuelling is smooth and precise, and the engine remains refined through most riding conditions. A slight buzz can be felt through the handlebars beyond 110kph, but the motor otherwise complements the motorcycle’s relaxed cruising nature well.
6.0
At 241kg, the weight is noticeable during low-speed manoeuvres, but it becomes far less apparent once the motorcycle is moving. The long wheelbase and relaxed geometry help it feel planted and stable at highway speeds. Suspension travel is limited by cruiser standards, so there is a firm edge to the ride, although the shocks do a decent job of reducing the impact of road imperfections.
7.0
The Super Meteor 650 comes with an LED headlight, Tripper navigation as standard, alloy wheels and a USD fork. Adjustable levers are also included, while braking is supported by dual-channel ABS.
7.0
The Super Meteor 650 delivers the relaxed cruising experience it sets out to offer. Strong build quality, a capable engine and stable highway manners work in its favour, while the standard seat and windscreen could be better. It is the most expensive Royal Enfield on sale, but the hardware, finish and overall experience justify the price.

Questions you may find useful
I am planning to buy a bike in the cruiser segment. My height is 5'10". Which bike would be best suited for me?
At 5'10", you have the advantage of being able to comfortably fit on most cruiser motorcycles available in India. Choosing a bike will boil down to your budget and preferences in terms of the bike you prefer. If you are looking for an attainable yet premium-feeling textbook cruiser with proven reliability and a strong ownership experience, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is a great starting point. It offers a comfortable riding position, a smooth engine and is well suited for both city commutes and relaxed highway rides. Its flashier sibling, the Goan Classic 350, offers a similar riding experience but with more visual pomp and flair. If you want something with a bit more power and presence, the Super Meteor 650 is a significant step up. It has a strong parallel-twin engine, a more premium feel and is very refined at highway speeds. Do bear in mind that the Super Meteor has stiff rear suspension which paired with the laid-back rider's triangle, will result in discomfort over poor patches of road.If you are open to something that has the character of a cruiser but looks more like a roadster, the Harley-Davidson X440 T is worth considering. It offers a definite step up from the RE 350s but isn't as heavy or uncomfortable as the larger 650cc models.
Do you have any idea when the revised version of SM 650 is to be launched?
There is no confirmed date yet for a revised Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. A test mule of what seemed to be an updated Super Meteor 650 was spotted overseas more than a year ago, and this bike had a different rear suspension than the current bike. The stiff Super Meteor's stiff rear shocks have been a noteworthy complaint from both journalists and owners, although it remains to be seen if and when Royal Enfield updates its flagship.
Hi, I’m looking for a motorcycle in the 650cc class for commuting to work in Chennai and occasional touring. I tested the Shotgun and immediately liked it. However, I am concerned about highway comfort compared to the Super Meteor, since I felt I had to lean a bit to reach the handlebars (I’m 5'11"). What would you recommend?
We'd recommend you stick with the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 over the Super Meteor 650 for your mixed-use case spanning both city and highway runs. The Shotgun's riding position is more neutral and will be comfortable over longer durations - especially considering the stiff rear suspension will keep sending bumps from the road to your spine.Since you're not comfortable reaching the handlebars in stock trim, experiment with a set of small handlebar risers to see if it alleviates your issue. You should also look at the Interceptor 650 while you're at it, because it delivers a similar riding experience to the Shotgun and has pliant suspension for Indian roads. Take a test ride of these two before making your decision.
Hi, I am confused between the Triumph Scrambler 400X, Harley-Davidson X440, Royal Enfield Himalayan, and Royal Enfield Meteor 650. I previously owned a Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 and am now looking to upgrade. My usage will mostly involve daily commuting in Pune traffic, with a 10 km highway stretch included in my 24 km one-way ride. I want a comfortable bike that can be ridden daily with a pillion and should also be comfortable enough for my wife to ride along with our 2-year-old child.
In terms of familiarity, the Harley Davidson X440 will be the logical next step up for you from your Thunderbird 350. With its neutral ergonomics, plush suspension and torquey air/oil-cooled engine, the X440 T will serve your use case well. If you want something with a bit more performance and more commanding ergonomics, then the Triumph Scrambler 400 XC is what you should consider. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 will easily be the most comfortable for two-up riding of the bikes you've shortlisted, but its heavy kerb weight could be hard to manage, especially with a pillion onboard in stacatto big-city traffic. We'd recommend you steer clear of the Super Meteor 650 because its laidback riding position and stiff rear shocks will cause you discomfort over bad roads. Take a test ride of the other three with your pillion to see which one you find comfortable before you make your purchase.
I own a Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruiser, and I am quite satisfied with it. However, I want something bigger and better in terms of comfort, safety, and speed. For touring purposes, which bike should I go for with a budget of ₹4 to 5 lakh?
If you are looking to upgrade to a cruiser body style, your options are limited to the Royal Enfield Shotgun / Super Meteor 650 within your budget. These bikes are large, stylish, twin-cylinder machines that will be relatively easy to live with from an ownership and running costs standpoint. However, both weigh 240kg (or more), and that could potentially be too much to deal with on a daily basis.A test ride of these bikes should help you understand their riding experience and whether or not their weight is manageable for you.On the other hand, if you're willing to wait a while, Honda is reportedly gearing up to launch a localised version of the Rebel 300 later this year. This would be a more manageable and approachable machine given its single-cylinder engine and more compact dimensions.
