The Kia Sorento SUV was launched in India today with prices ranging from Rs 27.99 lakh to Rs 40.19 lakh (introductory ex-showroom). It is currently the flagship ICE SUV in Kia’s India lineup and is being offered in six major trims: HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK(A), HTX and HTX(A), and a ‘Black Line’ styling pack. The Sorento is the first Kia EV in India to be offered with a strong hybrid powertrain, and it also gets a diesel engine. So which variant should you choose? Let us find out.
Kia Sorento powertrain options and prices
Gets 1.6L turbo-petrol strong-hybrid and a 2.2L diesel powertrain; higher variants get AWD

The Kia Sorento is offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain, where the engine produces 180hp and 265Nm, and the electric motor produces 65hp and 264Nm. However, Kia is yet to reveal the total output of the powertrain. It is mated with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission (AT). It also gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 193hp and 442Nm and is mated with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
The Sorento’s higher-spec HTX and HTX(A) trims get an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup with both powertrain options, while the other trims are offered with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.
Here are the variant-wise ex-showroom prices of the Kia Sorento:
Kia is offering the HTK(A), HTX and HTX(A) with an optional ‘Black Line’ styling pack, and as the name suggests, it adds certain blacked-out design elements, including black badges, black alloy rims and black fender garnish.

Which variant of the Kia Sorento should you buy?

The Sorento’s mid-spec HTK variant offers a fine balance between value for money and a premium and modern feature suite. The most notable miss on it is the AWD layout, but other than that, it gets almost all the niceties offered by the SUV. It misses out on a digital IRVM, HUD, more electronic adjustment levels for the front seats, boss mode and ventilated front seats, but none of these is a deal breaker. However, if you are on a budget, the one-over-base HTE(O) is the best value-for-money variant, offering a decently equipped feature suite for its price.
