The 2026 Renault Duster has been launched in India as the newest midsize SUV, with prices starting from Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). In its segment, one of its key rivals is the Tata Sierra, which is also one of the newer offerings. The Sierra has created a lot of buzz in the market, mainly due to its design and its loaded feature suite. Tata Sierra has larger overall dimensions, but the Duster offers more boot space

While the length of both midsize SUVs is similar, the Tata Sierra is 28mm wider, 56mm taller and has a 73mm longer wheelbase than the Duster. The Renault SUV, on the other hand, has a slightly better ground clearance and offers 78 litres of additional boot space.

Duster’s turbo-petrol engine is slightly more powerful than the Sierra’s

Comparing the turbo-petrol engines of both cars, the Renault mill is 3hp and 25Nm more than the Tata engine. With this engine, the Duster is also offered with a manual transmission, something which is altogether missing on any variant of the Sierra. The Sierra is also available with a diesel engine, an alternative to which will be the Duster’s upcoming 160hp, 172Nm 1.5-litre strong hybrid engine that will go on sale by Diwali 2026.

Both midsize SUVs get all-LED lighting, but the Sierra gets larger rims
Both Renault Duster and Tata Sierra are offered with all-LED lighting, a rear spoiler, powered ORVMs, puddle lamps and roof rails. The difference, however, is that the Tata SUV gets bigger 19-inch alloys and features flush-type door handles.

Sierra gets a bigger infotainment system and an additional passenger display
The Tata Sierra is the only SUV in its segment to offer a 3-screen setup. In addition to a 12.3-inch passenger display, it also offers a bigger infotainment system. The Tata SUV also gets more speakers, a rear sunshade, and memory and welcome functions on the driver’s seat, all of which are missing on the flagship Renault offering. The Duster, on the other hand, gets a powered co-driver seat, which is not offered with the Sierra.

Duster gets steering and engine modes, but misses out on terrain modes
The Duster gets more drive modes and also offers steering and engine modes. The Sierra, on the other hand, gets terrain modes, which are missing on the Renault offering. Both SUVs get paddle shifters with their automatic transmissions and an adaptive cruise control.

Safety features are identical, including 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake and Level 2 ADAS.
