Hatchbacks have long been the entry point into car ownership, and they also make sense as easy city runabouts. Because they sit at the budget end of the market, they need to be priced carefully. But buyers still want more, and that is why modern hatchbacks now come loaded with features and safety kits.
That brings us to two popular nameplates in the segment: the Tata Tiago and Maruti Suzuki Swift. Here, we are comparing their respective Creative+ and ZXi+ top variants to find out which offers better value for money.
2026 Tata Tiago vs Maruti Swift: Dimensions
The Swift is the larger car here in most key measurements. It's 47mm longer, 51mm wider and has a 50mm longer wheelbase than the Tiago. That also gives the Maruti car an edge in overall cabin space. It has a slightly bigger boot as well, at 23 litres more than the Tiago. The Tiago, however, is taller by 15mm and has 7mm more ground clearance.

Both are powered by their respective brands' 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engines, but the Tata hatchback has the upper hand in peak power and torque outputs, albeit by a slight margin. They also offer similar 5-speed manual gearbox and automated manual transmission (AMT) choices. Notably, a CNG setup is not on offer in either model's top variant.
2026 Tata Tiago Creative+ vs Maruti Swift ZXi+: Exterior features
The top-spec Tiago and Swift are closely matched on exterior features, with only a handful of differences separating them. The Swift gets LED projector headlamps, while the Tiago gets LED units. The Tata, meanwhile, distinguishes itself with chrome inserts for the door handles, and it also gets a shark-fin antenna with GPS functionality.
2026 Tata Tiago Creative+ vs Maruti Swift ZXi+: Interior features
The Tiago Creative+ has a more modern cabin here. It gets a digital instrument cluster and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen. The Swift does have a few comfort advantages, including two tweeters and adjustable front and rear headrests. The Tiago counters with a front armrest with storage, a cooled glovebox and 65W Type-C fast charging ports up front and at the rear.
2026 Tata Tiago Creative+ vs Maruti Swift ZXi+: Safety features
The Tiago has a clear advantage when it comes to safety features. It gets a 360-degree camera and a blind-spot monitor, features that are typically found in cars of higher segments. Also, the Tata car is the only one here to offer rain-sensing wipers. At the time of writing, neither car has been crash tested by the Bharat NCAP.
2026 Tata Tiago Creative+ vs Maruti Swift ZXi+: Prices and verdict
Considering all of the above, the Tata Tiago Creative+ is the easier recommendation over the Maruti Swift ZXi+. It's priced significantly less than the Swift, by Rs 91,000 in MT guise and Rs 80,000 in AMT form. For that lower price, you get a longer list of features and a better safety kit. The Tiago is also the newer car here, having received a major update in May 2026.
That said, the Swift still has its strengths. It offers a roomier cabin and remains a proven nameplate with a strong reputation for low running costs and reliability. But the top-end pricing does make it feel expensive for what it packs.
