Mahindra has announced a strategic partnership with Italian design house Pininfarina for its Formula E endeavours. Both companies will work together on the M5 Electro Formula E racecar, currently under development for Season 5 of the Formula E championship that starts December 2018. This aside, Pininfarina will also be a sponsor of the Mahindra Racing Formula E team.

The arrangement will mean Mahindra Racing will be able to leverage the design expertise of Pininfarina. Pininfarina will be working on the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to improve the aerodynamics of the car, which it will test at its facility, in Italy. Mahindra will also take Pininfarina’s help to design and develop future production electric vehicles.

Pininfarina, an eight-decade-old brand, along with designing high-speed trains, buses and airplanes, has a history of designing iconic fast cars. The Italian car designer marquee takes credit for shaping several iconic Ferrari models like the Ferrari Testarossa, California and 458, along with designing cars for brands such as Bentley, Aston Martin and Maserati.
