The Mahindra Thar Roxx and Thar 3-door are racking up the sales for the Indian SUV specialist on the back of strong demand for both models. As per SIAM data, Mahindra has despatched 2,59,921 units of the 3-door and 5-door Thar, between August 2020 and April 2025. Mahindra has been working on ramping up production of the Thar brand and has managed to reduce waiting periods for both SUVs.

Mahindra Thar Roxx variant-wise waiting period in May 2025
Thar Roxx AX7 L, AX5 L and MX1 variants have the longest waiting period
Compared to waiting periods in March – customers had to wait up to 18 months for the entry-level Thar Roxx MX1 variant and up to 12 months for the range-topping AX7 L 4x4 diesel – buyers of the 5-door SUV will have to wait for a maximum of just 6 months. The AX7 L and MX1 variants still have among the longest waiting periods, and are now joined by the MX5 4x4. All other Thar Roxx variants have delivery times of up to 4 months.
The Thar Roxx is currently priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 23.39 lakh, and comes with either a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.2-litre diesel option. Both come with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, with output figures depending on the transmission selected. Only the diesel engine option is available in RWD and 4x4 form.

Thar RWD diesel has the shortest waiting period
Buyers of the RWD diesel variants of the Mahindra Thar 3-door will have to wait up to two months for delivery, which is a reduction of about a month compared to March 2025. The Thar is also available in petrol-RWD, petrol-4WD and diesel-4WD form, all of which have waiting periods of just over two months.
The Thar shares its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options – along with their respective gearboxes – with the larger Thar Roxx. However, unlike the 5-door SUV, the 3-door Thar petrol is also available with a 4x4 option, along with a 1.5-litre diesel engine option in manual guise. The Thar’s price range is Rs 13.16 lakh-17.62 lakh.
